If you're struggling to get clients, I believe you should provide some free value first.
"Offering your services for free" is a well-known tactic that freelancers use in their initial days.
But as a website designer, what can you offer for free?
I offer a free website audit.
I record my screen on Loom while identifying the issues on the prospect's website.
Here is a checklist for what you check while auditing:
In the first 20 seconds, check if you can answer these questions:
- What do they do?
- Who do they serve?
- How do they work?
Then:
- Check SSL
- Check Layout and Space usage
- Check Fonts
- Check Colors, Contrast, and Consistency
- Check if all CTAs function properly and are identifiable
- Check Navigation
- Check if the website is mobile-friendly
- Check website performance on PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix, etc.
Send your prospect the recorded video of you identifying the issues on their website, and then give them an irresistible offer.
Be professional, or try your best to act professional. If they decline, move on.
