The HSE examples don't use any matrix for simple assessments. If the requirement is to reduce risk "As Low As Resonably Practical " ( ALARP) surely that means, if you can put a control measure in place that is reasonably practicable then you should? Rating risks puts us in danger of missing this point and not implementing simple measures because the risk is deemed acceptable. As we know, most people cant agree on what Low Medium and High actually means.

Another notch in the why people find H&S overwhelming belt... Just been sent this to review for a company's warehouse RA. When quantifying risk, does it really need to be this complex? Are we thinking about our audience who the RA is for... Ive been rethinking the approach to RAs a lot lately, and been quite critical of ones I've produced over the years, and looking to move towards the more pictorial SOP in place of a traditional RA that I think only serves our profession and not those that benefit from said RA. How do you create your RA's? #safetyprofessionals #healthandsafety
it's always staggering to me, in my area, how I see huge gaps in reasonable steps that buildings could be taking to mitigate slip risks
Couldn’t agree more Tony. That’s why as a QHSE software we decided to do things differently. Would love to get your feedback on it if you have 10 mins one day :)

1yDon't disagree with your argument in its thought processes Tony. However, how would you propose to prioritise risk across a multi disciplined and/or multi site business in order to allocate reasonably for resource if you have no way of prioritising areas of risk across the horizon?
