Can employees from tier 2/3 backgrounds deliver high value? Do you invest in their exposure? Two qualities affect the value of an employee- education and exposure. While an elite institution provides better education in terms of research orientation, rigorous assessments etc, greater differentiation comes from exposure. 1- At IISER Pune, our director told us "Even if you understand only 5% , attend the colloquium, you will relate with the content later in your life". This gave us a lot of resilience to sit through sessions and books. So I don't complain of information overload, I push myself as long as that content is important. I seek insight dense content. 2- Our Deputy Director told us " At this age breadth is more important than depth, you can always acquire the depth ". Prof. Saurav Pal said " All that can be explored by a Physicist in Physics is explored, so become a Physicist and get into Chemistry, engage in interdisciplinary research ". This was told in 2009 - this helped me explore multiple subjects. 3- Our Mathematics teachers grilled us in vivas. We would stand for an hour at the blackboard and take tough questions. This imbibed rigor and makes me think through arguments carefully. Exposure defines the personality. A strong Learning and Development programme can create such an impact even in graduates from tier 2/3 colleges. You can ping me if you'd like to discuss further. Let's extend the dialogue, If you like the idea, please ask a question in the comment #AskMeHow #GrowWithDT #GrowYourTalent #GrowYourBusiness #TalentInfusion #BusinessConsulting

I am happy to share that I have delivered a seminar in Pune on "Roles of Parents & Students in Career Selection" at Hotel Central Park. I am thankful to MIT Academy of Engineering, Alandi, Pune for providing me with this opportunity to create awareness in society. I take this opportunity to appeal to the parents and students to take expert advice for career selection rather than flowing with the opinions of the masses. Thank you Benett Coleman & Co. Ltd. (Times of India Group) for giving me this opportunity for the third consecutive time. I want to share with you something. I graduated in 2022 (supposed to be in 2021) with a degree in mechanical engineering, having received less than 60% in my intermediate and 60% in my undergrad. Because of the low percentage requirements, I was unable to obtain an on-campus or off-campus placement. A few months later, I was hired by a manufacturing company in Pune, Maharashtra, thanks to a referral from my father's friend. With no transportation or canteen available, the monthly salary was 11,139 per month after deductions. I had no choice but to seize that chance and utilize it to its fullest. However, I eventually came to the realization that this was not what I was looking for. My father encouraged me to take advantage of the IT sector. At this point, after working on that one job for almost a year and nine months, I felt that I had to either accept my fate or upskill in order to move to a different industry with technical and coding skills in order to take advantage of better opportunities and compensation. On the other hand, I did blunder when I decided to leave my present position and further my education in data science. But I'm extremely grateful for the previous opportunity to lay the foundation of the manufacturing industry and hone managerial as well as critical skills. Over the past year, I’ve been dedicated to improving my skills in business analytics, deep learning, and machine learning. Additionally, I’ve expanded my knowledge by upgrading my proficiency in CAD softwares like SolidWorks and Ansys Workbench, despite my mechanical engineering background. Though I’ve been without a job for a year, I’m confident that new opportunities are on the horizon. If you're on or had career break, what use is your a career break served you? And what difficulties are you currently dealing with? Your feedback and criticism are always appreciated. #CareerJourney #Upskilling #DataScience #MechanicalEngineering #CareerTransition #JobHunt #ITIndustry #ManufacturingExperience #Resilience #GrowthMindset #OvercomingChallenges #TechSkills #JobSeeker #FutureReady #CareerDevelopment

🌟 Observations from My Recent Visits to ITIs and Polytechnics in Bengaluru 🌟 During my recent visits to various ITIs and polytechnic colleges in Bengaluru, one thing became abundantly clear: there is a significant gap in basic communication skills among students. Many are struggling with fundamental subjects and lack clarity about their career paths. However, there was a standout exception—one college where students had completed a year of On-Job Training (OJT). These students demonstrated exceptional clarity about their careers, showed a deep understanding of their desired job roles, and exuded confidence about their future growth in the industry. This experience underscores the immense value of hands-on training and real-world experience in shaping a student's professional trajectory. It’s a compelling reminder that practical exposure can bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and industry readiness. Let's champion more such programs and industry collaborations to ensure our future workforce is well-prepared and confident! #Education #CareerDevelopment #IndustryReady #HandsOnExperience #VocationalTraining #ProfessionalGrowth
