Starting to see a lot of roof failures attributed to simply a lack of understanding of the design or due to no design at all. Don't fall into the trap of relying on a system manufacturer to provide all of the performance requirements and assuming these meet building codes, because they typically don't, and they are transparent about it. A warranted wind speed rider is not the same as a design wind speed for the project location. Stop leaving your client vulnerable to roof system failures attributable to not meeting applicable code requirements and a lack of understanding. Hire a design professional.

Wanted = Senior Architect Exp = 4 years Job responsibility = A - Z work of the company... Design, Execution, Structural, QC, BOQ etc etc etc... Software skills = AutoCAD, 3DS max, Photoshop, Revit, Sketchup, Rhino, Lion, Tiger, Dinosaur, Blah..blah..blah... Connections....Unfortunately, this is not a job posting from me, But came across a few requirements similar to this. Dear recruiters... Firstly , A 4 year experienced candidate cannot be coined as a Senior Architect, They are still learning the trade and a got a long way ahead in their professional career to be called as such! Secondly, You are looking for an Architect not a visualizer, Expect Design flair, material knowledge, ethics and basis of design and not some random software's since your company is using it! That is a different job role altogether! Lastly but more importantly, balance the work load - A single person cannot handle all the departments of the job - it would be rather exhausting and affect the primary motive. In a nutshell, Kindly set a fair expectation for the role and more importantly give them a healthy mental space to grow and explore! Hope you all agree! #mondaymotivation #seniorarchitect #design #jobopening #jobposting #hr #recruiters #workculture #visualiser

Civil 3D. Installed verses set up. What does it mean to a manager or the higher up at a business? Once the program functions and can print a product are you done setting it up? The truth is if a company is happy with the set up and process they don't update. Why? Lots of reasons including: It's always been done like this so it must be right. There is no time for updating. I've created drawings like this for years and don't wish to change. It's easier for me to do it this way. This is all well and good but it stalls growth. It stalls growing your own skills as well as the group that reports under you. Giving up control of setup and drawing to someone else that specializes in it can be a complex journey but a worth while one.

Contract Jobs Suck, I was thinking today about some of the Contract jobs I have worked in the past seeing as 80% of my jobs have been through a contract agency. Before I took my career into the IT field, I was a drafter, I did not speculise in anything because I have had to do everything just to stay employed, design buildings, done it. Design pipelines, done it. Design super coolers for power plants, done it. The only problem I ran into in the industry was.. 90% of companies only want contract drafters these are people who work for a company under contract from another company. I usually ran between $25 - $30 an hour. That sounds nice, but that also means No Sick time, No Vacation, No Holiday pay, No retirement and most of the contracts lasted only 6 to 12 months, with the promise (that has never been kept) of a full time job. Now some will be up front, and say, "Hey were only bringing you on for this project." I knew these were not going to last. Thinking back on some of the things I have done for these companies. A few I walked into and they were still doing table drafting, I came in and set up the digital standards and taught AutoCAD to the guys. Others I walked into and found many ways to improve, including Setting up Block Libraries, and standard drawings and layouts. Hell I learned LISP programing and setup automation to the systems and for one company I built an AI. But they all came to the same thing, "Wow, you did wonderful work for us, we wish you luck in your future." Then I am unemployed and trying to find a job before unemployment or savings runs out. Now I am tired of it and burnt out, I get at least five calls a day offering me drafter Contract jobs and each one of them I tell them the same thing, "I want $40 and hour, I expect Holiday and Vacation pay through the contract company or the company I am working for. I want in writing that after the contract ends, I will be offered a Full time job with matching pay or a raise in pay." This usually sends them running. So all you Head hunters out there looking for people to fill jobs, think about what they want and what you will be putting them through, these are people not just numbers to fill your chart.
