This week i had an eccentric engagement with communities from different mining communities we are working in, just listening to them sharing their stories and the lack of hope for mineral value addition and beneficiation in country made me wonder if ever our resources are a blessing or a curse. Their stories detailed the heavy handedness of the employment conditions and the paltry salaries people working there are getting, including the lack of community power in all the legal instruments that are there to protect and promote responsible mining. The environment remains exposed to destruction without checks and balances as the voice of the powerful politicians always supersede the community power whenever conversations are instituted. Corruption and misinformation of the processes are more evident in resource extraction as we push for engagement platforms between mine actors and communities often times the issue of political muscle is felt at all stages thus delaying the harmonization of the legal instruments that protect communities from forced evictions, environmental, social, cultural and governance practices. Key players should commit to working together to influence responsible mining in Zimbabwe if by any chance we anticipate getting tangible results from our resources.

The Copperbelt region of Africa stands as a testament to the continent's rich mining heritage and economic significance. Nestled beneath the earth's surface lies a treasure trove of copper, cobalt, and other valuable minerals, fueling both local livelihoods and global industries. Stretching across Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Copperbelt is a landscape shaped by the toil and determination of generations past and present. From the rhythmic hum of machinery to the steadfast resilience of miners, every aspect of life here is intertwined with the pursuit of these precious resources. Yet, beyond the extraction of raw materials, the Copperbelt embodies a spirit of innovation and progress. It serves as a catalyst for economic development, driving infrastructure projects, fostering technological advancements, and providing opportunities for growth and prosperity. However, the story of the Copperbelt is not without its challenges. Environmental concerns, social inequalities, and economic fluctuations cast a shadow over its gleaming seams. Yet, amid these complexities, there exists a shared vision for a sustainable future – one where responsible mining practices, community engagement, and equitable distribution of wealth pave the way for lasting prosperity. In the heart of the Copperbelt, amidst the earth's riches and the dreams of its people, lies a promise of progress and possibility for generations to come. #CopperbeltHeritage #MiningLegacy #EconomicSignificance #MineralTreasures #LocalLivelihoods #GlobalIndustries #InnovationHub #ProgressiveCopperbelt #InfrastructureDevelopment #TechnologicalAdvancements #CommunityProsperity #SustainableMining #EnvironmentalConcerns #SocialEquality #SharedVision

Today, on World Oceans Day, we stand with communities in Papua New Guinea fighting to protect the Huon Gulf from deep sea tailings placement (DSTP). The proposed Wafi-Golpu copper and gold mine plans to dump 360 million tonnes of mining waste into the Huon Gulf just 1km off the coast of Papua New Guinea. The gulf is part of the Coral Triangle, one of the most biodiverse marine regions in the world. This method of disposing of mining waste, known as DSTP, is being phased out worldwide because it risks marine ecosystems, human health, and the livelihoods of coastal communities. "Oceans and marine environments are essential ecosystems. The Huon Gulf sustains the lives of thousands of people in Papua New Guinea and is central to their cultural connections. We cannot separate oceans and human rights issues." - Emily Mitchell, Pacific Mining Director, Jubilee Australia. We call on the Australian and US companies responsible for the proposed mine, Newcrest Mining Ltd and Harmony Gold (Australia) Pty Ltd, to abandon their plan to dump mining waste into the Huon Gulf and to detail alternative solutions for disposing of their mining waste that will not harm communities or the environment. #NoWafiGolpuDSTP #WorldOceanDay

In January this year, a rock blast at the Moatize coal mine in Tete caused partial destruction to twenty-one houses, leaving many families in precarious situations. Now, six months later, authorities have begun rehabilitating the affected homes. However, many families still face difficulties, especially due to uncompensated damages to their appliances. This incident in Moatize raises important questions about the management of communities surrounding large mining and industrial projects in Mozambique. Projects like those by Sasol, Dogongo Cimentos, Jindal, and Vulcan in Moatize highlight the need for a more responsible and sensitive approach to the impact on local communities. How are resettlements and compensations being managed in these areas? The frequent detonations by the Vulcan company, which put nearby houses at risk of collapse, underscore the urgent need for more effective and responsible management. Authorities and companies must work together to implement policies that ensure the safety and well-being of affected communities. It's not enough to simply rehabilitate houses; long-term safety and stability must be ensured. This situation prompts us to reflect on the sustainability of large projects in Mozambique and the need for economic development that considers the needs of local populations. What can be done to improve the management of resettlements? How can we ensure companies are more responsible and transparent in their operations? These are crucial questions that need urgent answers to guarantee a fairer and more sustainable future for all. #communitymanagement #mozambique #mining #sustainability #coal #economy #doinbusiness #research #africa #angola #oilandgas #projects #letsconnect #education #economia #india

Not surprising the farmers that are driven from their communities and farmland are those living around the gold, precious stones, and lithium lithium mines . These mines are spread across Kaduna State ,Niger State, Zamfara State, and Katsina State. Theses are the banditry infested states in Northern Nigeria.

Zambia - landslide kills at least 7 artisanal miners with over 20 others missing. How long will stories like this, with dead artisanal miners, be acceptable? We can change outcomes on the dignity and productivity of #asm, which includes ensuring safety. Circumstances vary, the sector is diverse, but we see far too many stories about safety incidents that could be avoided. Beyond accidents, we also know that broader contamination from #mercury impacts the health of many. Now is the time to change. Professionalization is commercially attractive, productivity supports cost of implementation, and social impacts are huge, including changed outcomes on safety. We also know that we have #criticalminerals supply gaps, making ASM a strategic supply source that contributes to #energysecurity The Blended Capital Group is committed to changing outcomes along with our partners Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) Levin Sources BanQu Inc. Things must be improved in the artisanal mining sector. Producing is good, but improving the conditions of work of the those producing is important. Reason why there is need of investing in professionalization
