Have you ever had a flock of geese cross the road right when you were already late to a meeting! What was your reaction? Some of you probably were extremely annoyed…wondering why someone doesn’t do something about them or you may have smiled and thought about their lives. We don’t always react to a problem the same way. When you want to make a change, keep in mind that your “flock” may not be where you are nor finding the change relevant for them. Ask yourself how your donors, staff or board members feel about the change in your services, demographics, policies, etc. Are you making a connection for them as to “here is the problem” and “why we think we need to make the change”. What do you need to know about how they feel, whether they even believe there is a problem, and what experiences do they have to make it relevant for them. If your “flock” doesn’t think a change is relevant to them, they likely won’t sense any urgency to help make it happen.
