Tick, tock, tick, tock… The metronomic effect of a surface grinder as it moves from side to side and from front to back, finely grinding the surface of the workpiece can be quite mesmerizing and calming in a meditative way. The smooth and steady movement of a toolroom surface grinder can be heard clicking back and forth as the control stops engage at the end of each travel. With TENON Engineering’s extensive range of cylindrical grinding machines - from the CNC Studer, through to the two large J&S 1300s and our three smaller Myfords - the single surface grinder is a very busy machine, producing key datum and finish surfaces for both our internal and external customers. 🐟Fish canning plant🥫 (Yugoslavia/Croatia🇭🇷, 1967). The fish processing and canning company “Jadranka” was established in Vela Luka in 1892 by a Viennese industrialist. Initially focused on manual fish processing, the company later expanded into canned fish production. Operating through World War I, it faced challenges and changed ownership several times. Despite setbacks, it thrived in the post-war period, reaching its production peak in the 1960s, when it was part of Yugoslavia, as shown in this video📽️. The amazing footage of the canning line shows us what the state of the art in the industry was at the time. The fish🐟 was cleaned and placed in irregular tin cans manually. Subsequently, the metal cans🥫 passed into the German-built clincher, model Lubeca LW790. The lids, before being joined to the can bodies, were embossed by a rotary marker. Then, the cans were transferred to a two-head seamer, model Lubeca VA303, which operated at a speed of approx 60 CPM. By then, the Company had diversified its operations, including retail stores and additional jobs for workers. However, market changes and modernization efforts couldn't sustain its success, leading to closure in 2006🚦.
