In a busy factory on a Salt Lake street, Horton the elephant was hard to beat. As a batching supervisor, he was top of his game, Ensuring every batch was perfect, and no two were the same. One day, while working on his meticulous schedule, Mayzie the bird flew in, causing quite a riddle. "Oh, Horton," she sighed, "I need a break. Would you batch my egg for old times' sake?" Horton, so kind, with a heart big and pure, Agreed to the task, though the process was obscure. He set up the batch with care and precision, Ready to oversee with unwavering vision. First came the raw materials, sorted and weighed, With Horton ensuring no detail was swayed. He mixed and he monitored, every step in its place, Keeping the batch running at an efficient pace. Through ups and downs, he stayed true to his duty, Balancing efficiency with quality and beauty. He faced many trials, but never did lag, For Horton knew well how to handle a snag. He documented data, kept records precise, Ensuring each batch met standards and price. With each passing day, he grew more adept, Making sure the process was finely kept. And just when he thought his work was all done, The egg in the batch hatched under the sun. Out came a creature, unique and so grand, Thanks to Horton's diligent hand. Mayzie returned, surprised and quite moved, To see the fine work that Horton had proved. "Oh, Horton," she marveled, "you're the best supervisor!" And Horton just smiled, a humble advisor. For in the world of batching, where details are key, Horton the elephant proved what dedication can be. Employee Spotlight: Deontae Haynes Position: Production Coordinator Company: Western Container Corporation, located in the Forrest County Industrial Park, WCC is one of the bottle manufacturers for Coca-Cola bottlers. It is WCC's largest facility producing 3 billion preforms, and 1 billion bottles annually. Q: What kind of jobs have you worked in Manufacturing? Deontae: Plywood Supervisor, Plywood press Operator, and a Coil Winder and Lacer, Currently a Production Coordinator. Q: What made you want to get into Manufacturing? Deontae: I never knew once I finished college that I would get into manufacturing, I guess you can say that God just placed me in it, but it offers great benefits and a huge opportunity for career growth. Q: What is something you think most people don’t know or understand about the Manufacturing Industry? Deontae: A lot of people tend to think that manufacturing consists of assembly lines and repetitive labor, but the truth of the matter today's manufacturing requires workers that are high skilled and have a certain level of expertise in the area they are working in. That’s why with most big-time manufacturing companies it's required for you to have a degree. Q: What is your favorite aspect of your job? Deontae: This role I am in now gives me the opportunity to connect with and lead a bunch of different personalities, I would say the best part is being able to connect and work with my crew and build a foundation and relationship off trust. Q: What advice would you give someone who is interested in working in the Manufacturing industry? Deontae: Be able to have enough humility to always learn, NEVER think you know it all. If you are in a leadership position, remember your job is to not be in charge but to take care of the people in your charge. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. Always focus on developing strong technical skills. The most valuable thing you can have are people skills. Always remember your roots and where you began! At the young age of 16, I embarked on my journey as a production operator in a ready meal factory. It was a humble start, but I was determined to make my mark. I seized every opportunity to learn and grow, immersing myself in every department and giving my all. Through hard work and dedication. Today, I am proud to say that I have reached a senior level position. But it wasn't handed to me on a silver platter. I had to earn it through perseverance and relentless effort and adapting myself. I have worked at every level …cleaned toilets in a 3 piece suit prior to a major audit to ensure we achieved the grades we deserved… repaired machines after analysing the problems for over 8 hours when no engineers were available. I have worked endlessly on NPD projects for months for the sales team to win the credit, this only pushed me harder to win. Remember, success is not just about the destination, but the journey itself.
