The project involved the complete removal and replacement of the plant's existing aggregate storage bins which were used to store marine aggregates and sands, brought into the capital by barge. TBS replaced the original bins with a fully galvanised structure to extend the life of the aggregate storage area. The new bins have a ‘live’ aggregate storage capacity of 55 tonnes, with 100% of the space now fully utilised with no material left in the bins when emptied. To ease material flow from the fines bins, hard wearing, low friction Tivar liners were fitted to the tapers. Commenting on the project, TBS representative David Carlisle noted, ‘Many aggregate bins are in need of replacement because the bin linings are worn through, yet the main bin structure is still structurally sound. We wanted to create a future proof, more cost-effective solution where the customer can simply replace exact worn areas and not a complete set of bins. Now, even if bin liners are not replaced at all over time, the customer has the option to change out both the base taper section and the wear liner on each individual bin section, so all is not lost.’ Given its location in central London, it was important the installation was carried out in as short a time as possible, to allow plant production to recommence. The TBS and Heidelberg site teams did a fantastic job and worked long hours to ensure the original aggregate bins were removed and new bins installed in just 5 days. The plant is now fully operational and back to producing RMX concrete for the local market. TBS would like to thank Heidelberg and our site team for their excellent planning and execution to complete the project ahead of schedule. #TBS #Heidelberg #aggregatestorage #builttolast #UKmanufacturing #bespokeplantdesign
