The scope of #emergencymedicine and care that can be provided to #patients has become more of a focal point in the last couple of years. The reason for the increased focus is the new potential for tension between #EMTALA and newer #statelaw that restricts or prohibits access to certain care. The tensions place #hospitals and other #clinicians in a tough spot because violating EMTALA can carry significant repercussions for #Medicare participation. With a likely aim of generating more insight into what is happening on the ground, the Department of Health and Human Services now has an online portal where anyone can submit a complaint about potential EMTALA violations or denial of emergency care. Tracking the scope of reports and subsequent #investigations will be important. https://lnkd.in/eG6D5BnX

Many rural hospitals do not have the capacity to accommodate patient surge. Lack of on-site capabilities to treat very ill patients may require transferring patients which can be difficult if transportation is limited or unavailable. ASPR TRACIE met with three health care professionals from California to discuss how they managed their individual facilities’ responses. The health care professionals also worked with hospital staff in rural Imperial County to help augment capacity and accommodate patient surge. Learn how to apply their strategies to your facility’s emergency preparedness plan. https://lnkd.in/evqs5yfU

The LTC Remote Monitoring is an innovative program that aims to deliver the best care possible to long-term care residents and prevent avoidable transfers to the emergency department (ED). The program leverages the Practical Routine Elder Variants Indicate Early Warning for Emergency Department (PREVIEW-ED©) clinical deterioration tool developed from the evidenced-based NEWS2 scoring system that identifies early decline in the health status of LTC residents. Health Standards Organization recognized this initiative in its Leading Practices Library as it resulted in a 35 per cent reduction in total ED visits, a 36 per cent reduction in total hospital admissions, and much more. #HealthStandardAward Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCiAiPtY

When patients walk into an emergency department, they're often experiencing fear, pain and uncertainty. A chaotic environment with long wait times only adds to their anxiety, potentially worsening their condition. We prioritize short wait times and an atmosphere where patients feel seen, heard and valued from the moment they arrive. This allows us to focus fully on what we do best – providing high-quality care with precision and compassion. We believe healthcare is not just about treatment – it's about the experience. I am proud to say that we will continue to set the standard for excellence in emergency care. #HealthcareExcellence #PatientExperience #CalmInCrisis
