CHALLENGES - STEPPING STONES to resilience and growth Today, during a task, I was reminded of how, as a kid, I was so afraid of getting on stage for public speaking. Did I stop because of the fear? No. I still went up there. I still participated no matter what. Was it dreadful? Of course, it was. I still remember spending time with myself, training my brain to be prepared and building strategies. I was afraid, but I still did it. Looking back, I realize I've been learning and adopting resilience since childhood. What was my thought process behind it? It was all about: - How will I know if I don’t do it? - How will I excel if I don’t try? - How will I learn if I don’t do it myself? You see, resilience is a lot about inner strength. You can't evade difficulties; you have to confront them. Adversities are omnipresent. Everyone encounters them. What determines the outcome is how you face those situations. You can cry all you want, but that won't bring the results you desire. To achieve your goals, you need to be resilient and confront challenges head-on. Resilience is about a mindset that even if I fall, I will get up. It’s about trusting yourself. It can only come when you know you have your own back. You need to have an inner sense of security, which is why confidence is one of the crucial elements of resilience. When you're confident in yourself, you’re sure about your ability to handle things when situations are adverse. So instead of avoiding difficulties, learn to bounce back, manage them, and grow through them. A simple definition of resilience is the ability to bounce back from adverse events. In times of crisis the ability to remain calm and communicate effectively is critical. On the personal front it is worthwhile to plan out the actions you will take when that adverse event materialises. Talk yourself through the plan every six months,take note of any disrepancies and improve the plan During times of crisis,it is important to take note of the conversations you are having with yourself.
