Last week, The West Midlands Combined Authority released £200 million of funding to kickstart development plans for brownfield sites across the West Midlands! The former West Works site in Longbridge may be the most significant. Besides housing, will include a new business park that has already attracted high-tech industrial and pharmaceutical tenant interest. I decided to use PTV Lines to see how the site compared with other business parks in the region, looking into PT accessibility by working professionals. I'm planning to create more short public transport investigations like this with PTV Lines, so let me know in the comments if you have a case study that you're keen for me to investigate! Examples could include: 1) Service re-routing in response to maintenance work 2) Scenario comparison for route choice and optioneering along a corridor 3) Catchment area analysis for socially necessary service identification in need of subsidised funding, or supporting local authorities with BSIP applications 4) Test accessibility to healthcare and education POIs from new housing developments to gauge service requirements

Presentation 1 – Western Outer Ring Main The Western Outer Ring Main Pipeline Project (WORM) is a critical piece of infrastructure required to secure Victoria’s Energy supply by connecting high pressure gas pipelines on the east and west of Melbourne. This presentation discusses the challenges of procuring land access and government approvals for the WORM in a growing urban environment. The discussion will focus on the process for obtaining initial access to land for surveys through to final easement acquisition, working with registered aboriginal parties to mitigate and manage impacts to aboriginal cultural heritage and understanding the complexities of net gain offset requirements at both State and Federal level. The project includes a major watercourse crossing of Jacksons Creek. This crossing required realignment during the construction phase due to access restrictions. The discussion will focus on optioneering activities due to the realignment and the resulting construction challenges and successes. This project addresses the challenges and uncertainty about applying WSUD in small lot developments (those with fewer than 20 lots). Melissa McGrath (from Josh Byrne & Associates) and Melissa Manley (from Department of Communities WA) will talk about the outcomes from this project: 1. concept design elements to inform processes 2. lessons and recommendations to support better outcomes.

This is Scope 3 emissions reporting in action... Lang O'Rourke has set emissions limits on its concrete. Perhaps (finally) we will see #greencrete get a foothold in the Australian #builtenvironment. I like that they've made their carbon limits public too, for example 50MPa concrete can have no more tha 300kgCO2 per sq metre. Take action now—qualified projects currently under construction can take advantage of the new maximum ABR credit of $700k if special action is taken by October 15, 2024. Residential CAN go on a former brownfield as long as it meets the residential standards. Redevelopment on a former brownfield property, whether it's industrial, commercial or residential, is beneficial to the entire community! In order to apply for and be granted an US EPA Brownfield assessment grant you have to own the property and have a compliant Phase I ESA (among other requirements). You want to go the affordable housing route? Piggyback ALL the funding possible to get that project completed! Keep in mind- for most of those government type funding sources you will need a Phase I ESA and likely NEPA!
