Dear Minister De Lille, how about a triple hub strategy for airlines, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Maybe Cape Town and Durban can collaborate initially and use Wonderboom as an alternative to JNB, domestically. I would love to see an alternative domestic and intercontinental airline develop out of South Africa with primary hub, Cape Town and secondary hub Durban. Can the Cape and KZN possibly collaborate on this? Find a private investor interested and maybe take up a public (Cape and KZN) share too. Natural routes could include: Cape Town - Durban - Mauritius, or Cape Town - Durban - Perth, or even Cape Town - Durban - Mumbai. All of these routes could be profitable and increase tourist revenue immensily!!! And, I dream of a long haul flight from Cape Town to Miami to serve North America. Of course, Durban - Cape Town - Sao Paolo is also an obvious route. And non-stop Durban and Cape Town flights to hubs in Europe. In addition, I suggest the Cape and KZN, take up way more slack in marketing themselves internationally!
