This morning, the magnificent Quantum of the Seas made her maiden arrival in Darwin on a 12-day journey from Singapore to Brisbane, where she’ll homeport for the Australian season. Up to 5,500 passengers and crew stepped ashore to experience the best of the Northern Territory this morning, from thrilling crocodile jumping tours and exploring WWII history at the Defence of Darwin Experience, to admiring stunning murals and Indigenous art at MAGNT. We were lucky to jump onboard for a very special plaque exchange between Darwin Port and Captain, Krzysztof Szynkarczuk. Darwin Port is going from strength to strength with 13 maiden cruise calls scheduled in 2024-25 – proof that the NT is shining as a must-visit destination for global adventurers. The NT cruise industry contributed $181 million in total output and supported 527 jobs across the NT in the last financial year. Icon of the Seas cruise ship is going to be quite expensive to sail on for the next year. It’s definitely something that needs to be booked ahead of time as everyone wants to try out this new humongous ship It sells out so quickly! The question is: is it worth it? In my opinion, there are a ton of absolutely amazing ships out there that can give a very similar experience. if you’re a first time cruiser, I don’t think it is crucial to get on the icon. however, if you have cruised on most ships out there and want a taste of something special, then I would definitely save up money for the Icon. Royal Caribbean has truly improved this ship. it felt like the cruise line took every complaint in the book and corrected it in the icon of the seas! Have you sailed on the Icon yet? 💙There are ships that have entered into legend, and others that, despite having written a beautiful page of history, have remained in the oblivion of time. Today, I want to tell you about the piroscáfo Francesco I, which was the marvel of the first 19th century, due to its beauty and innovative navigation techniques, but not only that... 🥇On 16 April 1833, the first ever cruise took place aboard the luxurious steamship Francesco I, a marvel built in the Castellammare di Stabia shipyards and flying the flag of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.🇧🇱 The ship set sail from Naples and called at several Mediterranean ports: Catania, Malta, Corfu, Athens, etc., before landing in Constantinople (present-day Istanbul). The fun was not limited solely to on board; it was also guaranteed by guided tours of art, history, and culture. 🏛️ 📰 A large advertising campaign was launched to spread the word, and the maiden voyage was announced throughout Europe. 👑In addition to King Ferdinand II and the Queen, numerous nobles and princes 🎩💍 of the time embarked on the Francesco I, including English, French, Russian, Spanish, Prussian, Bavarian, etc., for a total of 43 passengers (unfortunately, I have not found any data about crew on board). 🧭The ship returned to Naples on 9th August, after a 112-day cruise, during which, according to the writer Francesco Li Volti: "there was no room for boredom,' given the trips organized to the prestigious locations chosen for mooring, and the parties, dances, and games that entertained the illustrious guests on board the ship during the crossing".💃🍸♟️🥂🎻 🛳️ The voyage was never repeated, but it inaugurated a new type of tourism and sowed the seed that blossomed a century later, that of the cruise industry. Papua New Guinea is the custodian of military heritage sites sacred to the shared wartime memory of Australia, the United States, and Japan. A rapid increase in Kokoda tourism numbers indicates that a niche wartime pilgrimage tourism industry beckons beyond Kokoda to the Lark Force Track, the Numa-Numa Track, the Kapa-Kapa Track, the Black Cat Track and Shaggy Ridge. These are not only different campaigns and battlesites – they are inhabited by different cultures with different traditions that create a smorgasbord of adventure based opportunities. Pilgrimage tourism is not restricted to trekkers. It has the capacity for wartime cruises to Port Moresby, Milne Bay, Lae, Madang, Wewak, Aitape, Manus, Rabaul, Bougainville, and Guadalcanal in the Solomon’s. A ‘Joint Agreement for Pilgrimage’ based on the Commonwealth Principles of Commemoration should be considered between Australia and Papua New Guinea to ensure military sites sacred to our shared wartime heritage are identified, secured, mapped and interpreted. https://lnkd.in/dBEC-5YJ

Ushuaia sets record at the start of the cruise season. The cruise season in Ushuaia has kicked off with unprecedented momentum, setting a historic record in port activity. Traditionally, October and November are quieter months, but this year they surprised with a significant increase in cruise calls. November alone recorded over 70 cruise calls! Now, Ushuaia is preparing for the busiest months of the season, with December and January being peak periods. This surge not only highlights Ushuaia’s importance as a gateway to Antarctica but also as a key destination in global cruise tourism. The bustling port reflects the ongoing growth of the industry and the dedication of operators and port workers who make this monumental operation possible. #antarcticagents #ushuaia #antarctica #antarctic #cruise #cruisetravel #cruiseexpedition #maritime #portcalls #port
