Don’t Let Temporary Roles Define Your Future
To my fellow international students in Canada, let me remind ourselves: You are here for a reason, and while most of us start our journeys with survival jobs, that is not your ending.
Your time working part-time or in customer service roles is a stepping stone, not your destination. These jobs teach you resilience, adaptability, and the value of hard work. But don't let them define your long-term goals.
You came here to grow, learn, and succeed in your field. Whether you're studying business, IT, healthcare, engineering, or another discipline, it's the skills you're building in school and beyond that are going to be the key to your future.
Here's what I encourage you to do:
1️⃣ Set Clear Goals: Know what you want to achieve and keep that vision alive.
2️⃣ Network Relentlessly: Those relationships with professors, other students, and industry players will serve you in so many ways. Events, informational interviews, this stuff pays off.
3️⃣ Invest in Your Skills: Take those internships, co-op placements, or certifications that actually apply to your career direction.
4️⃣ Never Settle: You are capable of way more than you think you are. Keep pushing boundaries.
And remember, your journey is unique. Those part-time shifts? They're part of the story, but they're not the headline.
Dream bigger, work smarter, and never lose sight of your potential. You’re here for more—go get it! ????
