🌎✈️ On the European Commission website, #AccessibleTourism is defined as follows: "Accessible tourism is about making it easy for everyone to 𝙚𝙣𝙟𝙤𝙮 𝙩𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨. Making tourism more accessible is not only a 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 – there is also a compelling 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚 for improving accessibility as it can boost the competitiveness of Tourism in Europe". From this definition we can understand how accessible tourism, is related not only to the issue of inclusion but also to the economy of the local area, because making facilities accessible increases both the number of visitors and the number of tour operators. Touristable is a project 𝘾𝙤-𝙛𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙪𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙣 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣. The Partners are: Cooperativa Spazio Famiglia (Lead Partner), Ibonis Europe, Green Village, MfC Maendeleo for Children, Društvo za kulturo inkluzije. #Touristable #Education #Training #Inclusion #Sport #Tourism

🌟 Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day! 🌟 Celebrating the culture and heritage of those who first called Canada home, Friday, June 21 marks Canada's National Indigenous Peoples Day. In Alberta’s vibrant tourism industry, we all have the unique opportunity to build meaningful and respectful relationships with Indigenous communities and business operators. Today, as we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, we recognize and honor the rich cultural heritage and invaluable contributions of Indigenous Peoples across Alberta. This day encourages us to reflect, learn, and deepen our commitment to fostering genuine partnerships with Indigenous communities. Indigenous Tourism Alberta and Travel Alberta are proudly at the forefront of supporting Indigenous tourism, in Canada. Their pioneering efforts are essential first steps towards a more equitable and inclusive tourism industry, where Indigenous voices are not only heard but lead the way. However, we acknowledge that this journey is just beginning, and much more needs to be done. "Indigenous and non-Indigenous relations move at the speed of trust." -Brenda Holder, Mahikan Trails Here’s how we can contribute: Learn ⭐ Understand the history, treaties, and contemporary issues of Indigenous Peoples. Educate ourselves about the impacts of colonization. Connect 🔗 Engage with Indigenous communities with respect and openness. Listen actively to stories and perspectives. Promote Indigenous Operators 🌄 Support and champion Indigenous-led businesses by promoting their services and sharing their stories. Authentic Experiences 🦅🍃Encourage residents and visitors to explore authentic Indigenous experiences in Alberta, deepening appreciation and respect for Indigenous cultures and new worldviews. Travel Alberta and Indigenous Tourism Alberta’s work is groundbreaking in Canada, but it’s crucial to remember that these are initial steps. Our ongoing commitment to reconciliation in it's many forms and equitable tourism practices is vital as we continue to build trust and create meaningful opportunities for Indigenous communities and entrepreneurs. #WorldTourismDay While tourism can be a force for good and peace, it's essential to acknowledge the critical issues facing Indigenous peoples and women in the global tourism industry (e.g., Tourism's Dirty Secret: The exploitation of hotel housekeepers by OXFAM Canada) My research with Indigenous and Campesino communities in Ecuador (including my community in Mulalo, Cotopaxi) has shown the powerful ways these communities (especially women) are transforming the tourism landscape in the rural areas of Ecuador. Their cultural values, such as the minga (community work) and chakras growing (food sovereignty), are central to developing their tourism businesses. If you are interested in reading about these cases, my book Community-based Tourism and Interculturality (in Spanish) is available through the FLACSO library, and a recent paper I co-authored with Ayme Tanguila is with the Journal of Sustainable Tourism. Note. The colorful picture was taken by my cousin Nathaly Rocha, who leads youth and community-led research in Mulalo. #sustainabletourism #Indigenousvoices #womenintourism

A Sustainable Future: Cooperation, Communication, and Connectivity in the Western Balkans' Rural and Adventure Tourism I was invited to be a panelist in a live discussion at this conference, hosted by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC). As a coach and auditor with Balkan Green, my role centered on the importance of #certifications and #standardization to ensure sustainable, high-quality, and safe tourism experiences. Certifications go beyond compliance; they’re fundamental to building #trust and #consistency, especially in the adventure travel industry, where client care, safety, and #environmental responsibility are critical. Special thanks to our moderator, Aleksandra Drinic, for skillfully guiding the conversation, and to my fellow panelists Kostantin Ciriviri from the Western Balkans Adventure Travel Association (WBATA) and Macedonian Association of International Mountain Leaders, @Aleksandar Pastir, Rescue 3 Europe Instructor and International Rafting Federation (IRF) Instructor, Tihomir Dakic, National Coordinator for Eurovelo, and @Zeljko Loncovic, Head of the Mountain Rescue Service Montenegro, for sharing their valuable on the ground practice insights. Some key takeaways from our discussions: ➡️ Standardization for safety and quality - introducing international standards in rural and adventure tourism can seem daunting, but through regional cooperation and robust certification programs, we can offer safer, high-quality experiences to travelers. ➡️ Developing a skilled workforce - there’s a pressing need for workforce training to meet international standards, with a strong focus on promoting inclusivity, especially for women and underrepresented groups in the tourism sector. ➡️ Positioning the Western Balkans internationally -by strengthening #communication, #connectivity, and #partnerships, we can establish the Western Balkans as a sustainable, attractive destination for adventure tourism on the global stage. Looking forward to the collaborative initiatives that lie ahead as we work to establish the Western Balkans as a #resilient, innovative, and #responsible tourism destination. #WesternBalkans #SustainableTourism #AdventureTravel #RegionalCooperation #TourismConference #ResponsibleTourism #GSTC #Bcorp

The State of Youth and its Role in Sustainable Tourism: The case of the Province of Savona, Italy by Chiara Castano. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dxGXq7gD Abstract: Savona, a coastal city in Italy, faces significant socio-economic challenges, particularly impacting its youth. The migration of young people in search of better job opportunities elsewhere is alarming, creating a talent drain and stunting local development. The absence of adequate infrastructure and initiatives to support the professional growth of young residents exacerbates this issue. Amid these challenges, sustainable tourism emerges as a potential catalyst for revitalization, since it is one of the principal economic sectors of the region and there are more and more institutional projects (European and national) dedicated to this topic. Promoting sustainable tourism can offer diverse opportunities, from eco-tourism to cultural and outdoor experiences, enhancing the local economy while preserving the environment. Strategies such as deseasonalisation, infrastructure improvement, and public-private cooperation are essential. Emphasizing sustainability can attract a new demographic of tourists interested in eco-friendly and culturally enriching experiences, simultaneously addressing youth unemployment and environmental concerns. Therefore, a concerted effort to align local policies with sustainable practices can transform Savona into a vibrant, resilient community, fostering both economic growth and social well-being. Projects are already in place and many will begin in the short term. #esdw2024 #towardscircular #AlterContacts #SustainableDevelopment #CircularEconomy #UNVolunteers #EuropeanSDWeek2024 #ClimateAction #Coastal #SDG #Italy

"World Tourism Day 2024" - Global community unites to celebrate “tourism and rural development” - Tourism as an instrument for peace - Tourism, often highlighted for its role in economic development, also plays a significant role in fostering peace. On a global level, where nations are interconnected and interdependent, Tourism, an industry made by people and for people, emerges as a compelling and dynamic force to defy stereotypes and challenge prejudices. This sector can be perceived as the epitome of intercultural dialogue; it allows meeting the "other", learning about different cultures, hearing foreign languages, tasting exotic flavors, bonding with other human beings, and building tolerance. In essence, it is a mind-broadening educational and spiritual experience. World Tourism Day 2024, under the theme "Tourism and #Peace", wants to highlight the vital role of this sector in fostering peace and understanding between nations and cultures and in supporting reconciliation processes. #WorldTourismDay This year’s International Day of observation comes at a critical moment, as countries around the world look to tourism to drive recovery, including in rural communities where the sector is a leading employer and economic pillar providing jobs and opportunity, most notably for women and youth. Development through tourism can also keep rural communities alive. It is estimated that by 2050, 68% of the world's population will live in urban areas, while 80% of those currently living in ‘extreme poverty’ live outside of towns and cities. These communities are usually much less prepared to deal with the short and longer-term impacts of the crisis. This is due to many factors, including their aging populations, lower income levels, and the continuing ‘digital divide. #Tourism offers a solution to all of these challenges. https://lnkd.in/epTFCm5J #propertysquarellc #propertysquaresrl #FranckRobert #mexico #caribbean #centralamerica #RealEstate
