How high are your expectations? We recently worked for a client who was suprised and relieved that our rescue team arrived with their own gas detection (our client's was out for calibration) and that our team were all first aiders (our client didn't have someone available for the area our team was working). Our team were shocked at how low their expectations were. If you are hiring a confined space safety and rescue team you should expect the best! Your safety team should be: ✅ Involved in planning the entry - preventing an incident is far more preferable to responding to an incident. ✅ Overseeing the entry - again, prevention of an incident is preferable and if an incident does occur, then being present as it unfolds means a more effective and quicker response. ✅ Well equipped - Some of the kit used for confined space entries can be temperamental. A team should be well prepared with extra equipment (which is all inspected / calibrated / serviced) to cover breakdowns and also to lend to the entrants in case of shortfalls etc. ✅ Experienced - Completing a 1 or 2 day rescue course is only a small part of becomming a competent rescue team member. Check your teams have competency as well as training. ✅ Documentation - There should be a well written, comprehensive document detailing suitable and sufficient emergency arrangements. Relying on a few sentences on a permit to work is not sufficient. ✅ Expertise - your safety provider should be able to advise you on training, equipment, safe methods of working, best practice and more! This obviously isn't an exhaustive list and we are sure you can add more requirements, but the overarching message we are trying to put across is to expect the best! There are lots of teams in the UK doing a good job, but there are also plenty that aren't as professional as they should be. #Safety #ConfinedSpace #ConfinedSpaceRescue #FirstAid www.redlinesafety.co.uk

What does being a ‘safe’ company mean to you? This is something we have been pondering over the last few weeks, as June is National Safety Month. Here at Kaboodle, being a safe company means: ✔ Making sure all our installers are Gas Safety trained and have the correct safety equipment for the job. ✔ Using monitoring equipment in all our vehicles to ensure everyone is driving safely. ✔ Keeping our offices clutter and trip-hazard free, so no injuries occur. ✔ Ensuring our warehouses are neat and in order. ✔ Continuing to gain a ‘Zero Risk’ score on our Gas Safety audit. ✔ Having trained First Aiders and Fire Wardens at every site. We would love to know what having a 'safe workplace' means to you as a company? Post below. #nationalsafetymonth #safetyatwork #safecompany #safetyfirst
