#SuppliersPartnership member company Toyota North America announced it has agreed to offtake 100 megawatts (MW) of the electricity generated as part of renewable energy company Savion’s Martin County Solar Project through a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA). The project is converting the former Martiki Coal Mine, a brownfield site in Martin County, on the border of Kentucky and West Virginia, into a new solar photovoltaic energy facility.

Eurowind Energy will supply clean electricity to Arla Foods in Denmark after the two companies signed a new 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA). Under the agreement, Arla Foods has secured 60,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually from two upcoming Eurowind Energy parks. The volume of electricity supplied under the agreement is equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 15,000 Danish households. The new PPA builds on an earlier agreement signed in 2022, when Arla committed to a 10-year power sales contract with Eurowind Energy from the Nørre Økse Sø park. With the addition of the latest agreement, Arla will purchase close to 2 TWh of renewable electricity from Eurowind Energy’s projects over the contract period. “Arla is a good example of how buying green electricity is a simple and effective way towards greater climate neutrality for a company,” said Jesper Schaumburg-Düring, Commercial Director at Eurowind Energy. “We continue to expand our many upcoming parks and are thus an obvious partner for companies like Arla that are ambitious when it comes to climate goals.” #cleanenergy

The Reindustrial Evolution ⚡️ Toyota Alabama unveiled a new addition to its Alabama plant on Monday, a 168-acre solar power farm. The company said the 30-megawatt #solar energy system was the result of a partnership between Toyota Alabama, Toyota Tsusho America, Inc (TAI) and Huntsville Utilities. Toyota said the project cost $49 million and will provide 70 percent of Toyota Alabama’s energy usage.

The redevelopment of closed coal mines and abandoned production facilities into solar projects represents a significant opportunity for clean energy alternatives. Pennsylvania, which has historically produced nearly one-fifth of the United States' coal output since the mid-1700s, now has around ~200,000 acres of abandoned mines. GM Strikes Largest Renewable Energy Deal to Power Key U.S. Assembly Plants General Motors (GM) has announced a landmark 15-year renewable energy purchase agreement with NorthStar Clean Energy to power three of its key assembly plants with renewable electricity. When Hyundai Motor Group announced two years ago it would build a massive new electric vehicle “Metaplant” near the Georgia coast, the company committed to operate using 100% renewable energy from the start of mass production, expected later this year. On Earth Day this year, Hyundai and key suppliers announced a huge power purchasing agreement, saying it would buy enough solar power to “support sustainable manufacturing” at the Metaplant and other U.S. factories.
