Top Foam Pourers Top foam pouring systems are used to protect fixed roof tanks and fixed roof tanks fitted with internal covers. ln each case the systems are designed on the basis that the fire risk comprises the total surface area of the stored product. The system operates by introducing a foam concentrate into a fire water feed line outside the tank bund area. This line is led to a foam generator, foam box and pourer all of which are mounted in line at the top of the tank shell. When inliiated, the foam solution is propelled to the tank where the foam generaior aerates the solution and delivers the resulting foam thfough a bursting disc in the foam box. A pourer unit immediately inside the tank shell and connected to the foam box, directs the foam down the shell to form a blanket which extinguishes the burning product. Design considerations: Where two or more inlets are required, they should deliver foam at the same rate to the surface of the tank to the surface of the tank at the same rate and that they are equally spaced around the liner. All pipework, valves and riser systems should be designed to give approximately equal flow rates from each discharge. The foam inlets to the tank should be 300 mm above the maximum designed product storage level. Caution: In the event of an explosion in a tank causing rupture in the roof-shell joint and distortion in the upper shell plating, if this is in the area of any of the foam units, these units may be rendered ineffective. EQUIPMENTS AND PIPING INSULATION Piping Insulation is required for the purposes of conservation of heat, maintenance of stabilized process temperatures during atmospheric temperature changes, condensation prevention, burn prevention of personnel or limiting noise levels according to the classification nominated. Three types of insulation are required : 1. Cold insulation, 2. Hot Insulation and, 3. Personal Protection. Various types of insulating materials are : 1. Mineral Fibers. 2. Cellular Plastics. 3. Cellular Glass. Design life of insulation is around 25 Years: Burn and Freeze protection insulation required for piping with operating temperature above 54°C or below 10°C. Personal Protection Insulation: Personal protection insulation should be upto 2.1 meters above grade and platform elevation, and 0.6 meters outside the platforms, walkways etc. Fully insulated personal protection is required for lines operating above 200°C. Body and nozzle flanges of Heat transfer equipments shall not be insulated. All piping and equipment operating with fluid temperatures below 27°C shall be insulated for condensation prevention (“anti-sweat”). Nozzles, components and appurtenances shall be insulated and covered with vapor barrier and weatherproof cladding. Insulation is applied only after weld testing, pressure testing and painting. 1. Polyurethane Insulation is normally used for Cold Service Insulation. 2. Rigid Urethane foam can be used up to 100°C. 3. Calcium Silicate is used as acoustic insulation. 4. Foam glass can be used up to 260°C. 5. Mineral wool insulation can be used upto 500°C. 6. Stainless steel mesh guard at a distance of 32 mm can be used as a Personal Protection. Otherwise Hot or cold insulation can be used.

Characteristics and differences between external wiring and internal wiring of cartridge heaters: 1. Structure and characteristics From the figure below, you can clearly see the difference between the external wiring structure and the internal wiring structure. The external wiring structure is that the lead rod and the lead wire are connected outside the heating tube through the crimp terminal. The internal wiring structure is that the lead wire is directly connected from the inside of the heating rod. The external wiring structure usually uses fiberglass sleeves to wrap the wiring joints, firstly to increase insulation protection, and secondly to protect this part of the leads from excessive bending. The lead rod of the internal wiring structure does not extend outwards. It is necessary to connect the lead and the lead rod before sealing the sealing end, and then seal and fix it inside the heating tube through ceramic or sealant. The process is more complicated and time-consuming than the external wiring structure. , so the price of heating tubes with internal wiring structure is usually more expensive than heating tubes with external wiring structure of the same size. 2. How to choose a. For heating tubes with lower heating power and lower operating temperature, you can choose a more economical external wiring structure. b. For heating tubes with relatively long leads, try to choose an external wiring structure. c. For thinner and shorter products, try to choose an external wiring structure. d. After the heating tube is installed, the space for outlet and wiring is limited, so an inner lead structure must be selected. e. If the leads need to be bent or the product needs to be moved frequently, an inner lead structure must be selected. f. The overall operating temperature is high. Please choose a heating tube with an internal wiring structure and a high-temperature lead wire. g.
