We are saddened to have to share the news that one of our long-time employees and brothers, Shaun Curbelo, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday at the young age of 39. Shaun captured the spirit of Trace’s family culture and how our company grew into what it is today. Following his time as an Army officer with 173rd Airborne Brigade, Shaun joined Trace as a Field Service Representative in 2012 and made his way up through the ranks to a Program Manager. He was Trace’s first employee into far-reaching places like Syria, Djibouti, and Yemen. During his time with Trace, he was one of the primary faces to our SWA customers that endeared themselves to him because of his mission focused and charismatic personality varying from our field support teams for Iridium services, MWR Café solutions, our GCCS-J team, and several other efforts. Shaun was an empowered and trusted leader interacting with our active military service Warfighters. He was undeniably dedicated to the commitment of our company, to our country, and to the overall military mission of our troops. He always wanted to be out front, shoulder to shoulder, wherever the fight was at. Outside of and more important than recognizing his accolades at work, those who knew Shaun remember him as a great person to be around. With his humility and always wearing his heart on his sleeve, he was someone that people related to instantly. As a father and a husband, he wanted to do right by his family and take care of those he loved. All of us lost a valued coworker, many of us also lost a friend. He will dearly be missed by his family at Trace Systems.

Shaun was my loving father (I’m Mikael, Shaun’s oldest son.) He was so full of jokes, happiness and overall such a great person. Me and my dad couldent meet a lot, but when we did we had so much fun together. We would give each other gifts, we would play this little game called Roblox together which I still message him to this day telling him how much I miss him. My dad was the most fun person to be around with you. I miss him very much and I still message him in WhatsApp everyday. And also thank you guys for your condolences and we are healing faster from this terrible incident. We all miss Shaun, if you would like to visit him and say final prayers, his grave is in Atlantic Gardens Veteran Cemetry in Aguadilla Puerto Rico. Thank you for your condolences. Mikael, Shaun’s oldest son. (10 yrs)

I'm so devastated by this news. I went through Officer training with Shaun and we were classmates at Embry Riddle together. Always so full of life, humor, determination and such an infectious smile and laugh. I'll miss him dearly. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Shaun was truly an inspiration and will forever endure in the memories of the lives he impacted. Rest easy my friend 🕊

I was saddened to hear the news. Shaun was such a great person and wish his family and friends well during this trying time. I was fortunate enough to spend time with him this past year in Jordan and had the joy of surfing with him in PR. Shaun always had an inspiring idea and was full of life. May he forever ride the wave of his life!

This hurts.. this man was awesome and never had a bad day. He even gave me a opportunity to be a project manager in Jordan. I remember when he transitioned. He loved his family

My condolences to Shaun's family, he will be truly missed. I look fondly back on my time working with Shaun, he had the ability to connect with anyone and would go out of his way to help anyone he could. A good man.
