An army,[1] ground force or land force is an armed force that fights primarily on land. In the broadest sense, it is the land-based military branch, service branch or armed service of a nation or country. It may also include aviation assets by possessing an army aviation component. Within a national military force, the word army may also mean a field army. In some countries, such as France and China, the term "army", especially in its plural form "armies", has the broader meaning of armed forces as a whole, while retaining the colloquial sense of land forces. To differentiate the colloquial army from the formal concept of military force, the term is qualified, for example in France the land force is called Armée de terre, meaning Land Army, and the air and space force is called Armée de l'Air et de l’Espace, meaning Air and Space Army. The naval force, although not using the term "army", is also included in the broad sense of the term "armies" — thus the French Navy is an integral component of the collective French Armies (French Armed Forces) under the Ministry of the Armies. As we begin 2024, we wanted to post this image to stir discussion. We know that all of you #military service members want to have a successful #militarytransition —there's not doubt about that. This makes sense because: ✅ You want to be successful in your post-military life ✅ You want to take care of your family and their needs ✅ You want to be valued and contribute to another organization greater than yourself What you don't know—because the current program of record is not structured properly—is that you have gaps leaving the military that you need to be aware of and fill before you exit the military. There are gaps because the military and private sector environments are completely different environments. Yesterday was the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, when allied forces landed on the beaches in France. The heroism and sacrifice that day from those service members set the world on a course to an allied victory in Europe. But, I want to focus on what happened before and after D-Day. Because that operation took months of planning, coordination and resourcing. Operation Overlord had 1,200 aircraft, 5,000 vessels and nearly 160,000 troops. Think of all the steps required to plan a little kid’s birthday party - now consider the scope I mentioned above. The size and scale of that operation is nearly unfathomable to most people. These planners were a mix of career military and folks who had been farmers just a few years prior. But the military gave them training and processes to achieve results. Still today, our service members plan operations nearly as large and complex across the globe. They gain invaluable skills and experience doing this, just like the greatest generation who planned Operation Overlord. So - if you are a business leader looking for folks with skills and experience larger than most then consider hiring a Veteran. Our service members today are the most technologically trained, and most educated force we have ever seen. These service members had lots of options when graduating from high school or college, and they stood up to join an all-volunteer force. They did the hard things, because they had the option to do hard things. They had these options because of the sacrifices of those who came before them, storming the beaches in France. Jungle warfare expertise shared between Indian and French troops in Shakti-2024 India and France's Shakti-2024 military exercise is underway. This year's edition sees a larger troop presence and focuses on mountain and urban warfare under UN mandates. A key feature is the Indian Army sharing its jungle survival expertise with France's elite Foreign Legion. NEW: With further focus on amphibious capability, the latest Defence Australia force restructure has also made way for an ever growing list of joint operations with collaboration between regional allies not seen since post-war levels prompted by China’s growing influence and military capabilities. Among the most recent was a deal struck between Australia, Japan and the US to include Japanese marines in trilateral exercises in the top end. The increased presence of US troops in Australia could also prove fruitful for Townsville as senior Defence sources revealed to this publication there was a push in place by those in the highest levels of Army to see US littoral assets based in North Queensland. It’s understood US personnel have visited potential sites ahead of Land Forces International Land Defence Exposition, showcasing equipment, technology and services for the armies of Australia and the Indo-Asia-Pacific held from the 11 – 13 September in Melbourne. 🚁Calling all military veterans, aviation enthusiasts, and professionals in the defense sector! 🚁 I'm currently working on a project focused on resilience in today's military pilots/recruits. As we navigate evolving threats and challenges, it's crucial to ensure our recruits are equipped not just with technical skills, but with the mental fortitude needed for combat situations. Having witnessed a massive change in society gone are the days of the "stiff upper lip" approach; today, we recognise the importance of holistic resilience training. But how do we effectively prepare our people for the demands of modern warfare? I believe units with a very strong ethos are better at attracting the right mentality but I think the military is definitely seen more as a job now above anything else and that attracts a different understanding of commitment and sacrifice.
