Germany's first regular driverless shuttle service has been operating in Monheim am Rhein since early 2020. Its aim is to expand local public transport and promote sustainable mobility. The service integrates five EasyMile driverless shuttles into the existing bus network, particularly benefiting the historic old town with its narrow streets inaccessible to conventional buses. Over two years, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) conducted studies to evaluate public acceptance and the impact of this service on mobility behavior.
