ONE’s updated Position Paper on Veterans' Policy For your awareness, please find ONE’s updated Position Paper on Veterans Policy. ONE receives assistance from many quarters in support of veterans of the Defence Forces. This has enabled the organisation to: 1. Open and sustain its current four homes 2. Develop fifteen veterans support centres and thirty – three branches nationwide 3. Plan the delivery of additional homes 4. Put in place a range of supports for veterans, with specific focus on mental health support. The sustainability of the aforementioned must be ensured and ONE believes that the facts we have created on the ground should be enshrined in a Government Veterans’ Policy thereby ensuring continued support for veterans in need. This support will be strengthened by research into areas affecting veterans and fortified by having a cross governmental agency tasked with co-ordinating the delivery of Veterans’ Policy – The Office of Veteran Affairs. ONE recommends that the next Programme for Government includes:  * A commitment to develop a comprehensive Veterans’ Policy. * A reaffirmation of the commitment to establish an Office of Veterans Affairs. Military working dogs are elite #warriors, trained by the best, but what happens when it’s time to #retire? Prior to the passing of “Robby’s Law” in 2000, many MWD’s would be #euthanized once they were no longer able to #serve. This law allows previous handlers, law enforcement, and even qualified civilians to adopt these retired heroes. Almost 90% are adopted, but 10% are unable to be adopted and subsequently #euthanized because of their #aggression. After years of #combat, sniffing out IED’s, and tackling Taliban #insurgents, these old dogs are not the same playful puppies they once were. This is a great country, and we must #not #give #up on those who have fought our wars, regardless of if they have 2 legs or 4. Nonprofits like the Warrior Dog Foundation give these dogs a second chance, and we all know they’ve earned it. Despite numerous discussions, the reality is that without the contributions of non-profit organizations, little progress would have been made for Veterans. Nevertheless, for individuals aspiring to work for esteemed non-profit agencies like the WWP, it is crucial to enhance their salary packages. These salaries must reflect the current cost of living to attract a significant workforce. #GotYour6 #CraigNewmark

They include: ✨ Free books for naval children, young adults, parents and carers. ✨ Doing Distance - A psychological toolkit for armed forces children which includes worksheets that are accessible through their website to download for free with accompanying videos. ✨ A wellbeing box for children aged 7-13 yrs, which includes a handbook, journal & cards ✨ Navigating Grief - A booklet for parents, carers and young people. ✨ Wisdom While You Work - A notebook for Naval children aged 10 – 25 years old with hundreds of life’s most important values to guide and encourage young people. Topics include health, kindness, honesty, love, enthusiasm, motivation and communication. They also have their Life Chances Programme. This offers opportunities to children and young people, not just those whose families are in crisis or in need of immediate financial support. These are opportunities where young people can come together with other Naval children, bond over shared backgrounds and lifestyles, have fun and discover new experiences, some of which may lead on to future careers.
