Multiple changes are coming in 2025 that will affect the submission and review of grant applications at The National Institutes of Health. These changes include updates to the peer review and submission of most research project grants, fellowships, and training grants; Common Forms for NIH Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support; updated instructions for reference letters; and the transition to FORMS-I application instructions. The National Institutes of Health, the U.S. government’s premier biomedical and behavioral research enterprise and a component of the Department of Health and Human Services, is pleased to announce its sixteenth annual call for researchers who aspire to be “NIH Stadtman Investigators.” These are prestigious tenure-track positions (assistant professor equivalent) within the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP). As a member of the IRP, you join a team whose hallmarks are intellectual freedom to explore novel and potentially revolutionary ideas, access to state-of- the-art scientific facilities and resources, easy and direct interaction with a wide range of scientific expertise at NIH, all combined with long term stable funding. Over the last 15 years, the “Stadtman” recruitment mechanism facilitated the hiring of more than 100 investigators in a broad range of scientific disciplines. Dozens of them have already become tenured senior investigators. We encourage applications from doctoral-level researchers in any field relevant to the NIH mission who are interested in tenure-track positions within the NIH IRP. The #POSTDOCket: A Personal Guide to Applying for the NIH K99/R00 (Part I) The NIH’s K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award provides up to five years of grant support in two phases - two years of mentored postdoctoral training (K99) and additional funding for up to three years of independent research support (R00). This prestigious and highly competitive award can fund up to approximately 1 million dollars and is the only NIH funding available for international postdocs. This article aims to discuss the overlooked aspects of the K99/R00 award in two parts. Meet our next graduate studentship awardee, Priyonto Saha, a second-year master's student in biostatistics, supervised by Zahra Shakeri, Aya Mitani and Kuan Liu. As COVID-19 case counts continue to rise, many patients have reported a range of lingering symptoms for months after their initial infection. This phenomenon, known as long-Covid, is currently only defined by a diagnosis of exclusion. Coupled with a very broad symptom profile, long-Covid presents a complex unresolved mystery for medical researchers. In collaboration with the Clinical Augmented Intelligence group at Harvard Medical School, Priyonto is investigating long-Covid with an interdisciplinary approach in biostatistics and machine learning. His research leverages health data from diverse populations while preserving privacy and ensuring fairness. With his project, Priyonto aims to provide healthcare professionals worldwide with a better toolset for characterizing and diagnosing long-Covid.

Note that Federal Year 2024 (FY24) goes from October 1, 2023 - September 30, 2024. NIH Institutes and/or Centers may issue (for now) non-competing awards at a level below what is indicated on the most recent Notice of Award. The moment you realise you can critically review a clinical research paper 🤩 During our summer school sessions on clinical research studies, students will be looking at: 👉what is clinical research 👉the different types of research 👉how to determine the quality of the research trial 👉understand what the statistics actually mean so we are not blinded by numbers and really understanding the magnitude of the effect of the research trial so that we become more informed practitioners. The summer school sessions will equip our students and graduates to look at the clinical research studies critically 💪💥
