I had the privilege of attending the Tech Talent Harvest event at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd, where I was inspired by insightful keynote speeches from industry experts who shared their career journeys. Here are some key takeaways that resonated with me: 1. **The Importance of Continuous Learning**: Technology is in a constant state of evolution, presenting new ideas, breakthroughs, and opportunities. Transitioning from education to industry or moving between companies can be challenging, but embracing a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability is crucial for success. If you're not willing to engage in lifelong learning, a career in tech may not be the right fit. 2. **Broaden Your Knowledge Base**: Expanding your skills beyond your current area of expertise enhances your versatility and prepares you for diverse roles. This not only makes you a more attractive candidate for promotions within your organization but also positions you as a valuable asset in any professional setting. 3. **Don’t Shy Away from Applying**: It’s common to feel disheartened when faced with job descriptions that list numerous technical and non-technical requirements. However, missing one or two qualifications doesn’t disqualify you from the position. You never know what particular attributes a recruiter may prioritize, and you could very well be the ideal fit for the role, even if you don’t meet every single criteria. I would like to extend my gratitude to the keynote speakers Emma Feltham, Ashtha Bajaj, Liz Cochlin, Kevin Dainty, and Louise Knight for their inspiring and enlightening presentations. Their insights have certainly motivated me to pursue a career in technology.

What would a travel day be without the prerequisite 6 AM airport selfie? On my way to the Ohio Association of College and University Business Officers (OACUBO) 2024 Annual Meeting, to present a breakout session with my Apogee, Inc. colleague, Megan Rosati. Our topic, “Punching Above Your Weight: How to align technology strategy, staffing, and resources to achieve more than the sum of your parts”, will discuss how success in achieving technological sustainability and exceptional campus experiences comes first through clearly defining your institution's look of success, and formulating a strategy around your school's unique composition of governance structure, finances, and staff to build an organization that is resilient, sustainable, and tailored to the needs of the "new now." If you're attending, we hope you'll join us in the session, and then stop by and see at our table at the meeting. We Wear Your Colors ™. #InnovateTransformGrow #NewNow #CIO #PunchAboveYourWeight

We've all heard the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none" said somewhat tongue in cheek about the factotums in our lives, but did you know that the end of the OG phrase was "oftentimes better than master of one"? One of April Palmer's all time favorite TED Conferences talks is by Emily Wapnick where they talk about bring a multi-potentialite (break it down into three sections to intuit the meaning: Multi, potential, and... ite!) That's April! And her ability to pick up random skills and also build a strong network of folks across all industries and roles has helped her to always find the next career adventure without having to easy apply to thousands of jobs with few results. Come hang with April at Richmond Technology Council - Richmond Technology Council - rvatech// 's #codeandcloudcon2024 to learn more! #unmba Jazmyn Ward Ford Prior

We need your advice Following on from the success of HEFEST 2024, Future Campus will run two targeted conferences in 2025 and we need your help to shape them. HE FEST 25 will focus on marketing, communications, student recruitment and advancement, as well as a strong focus on the strategies and policies driving change in higher education. HE WORKFORCE 25 will focus on the current and future role of people employed in higher education, looking at best practice human resources management, the role of technology in shaping the workforce of the future, skilling of HE leaders and a look at current research, legislation and policies shaping the sector. We expect HE FEST is likely to be in the second half of the year and HE WORKFORCE just before Easter, but we will move dates and locations around based on feedback. We are aiming to lock in campus hosts and announce event dates well before you can hear the jingle of Christmas party music firing up, so please let us know your feedback – each survey takes around four minutes. If you could fill in one or both depending on your interests we would be eternally grateful. Well eternally is a bit strong, but there would be a strong positive vibe in response to your contribution for a time. Tell us what you want at HE FEST 25: https://lnkd.in/gShVfVKz Tell us what you want at HE WORKFORCE 25: https://lnkd.in/gMehHuNr
