President and Founder of Build A Dream | Leader | Speaker | Harnessing the Power of the Diverse Workforce.
I'm thrilled to respond to the media coverage surrounding the recent announcement from Build a Dream, the organization I am proud to be a part of. Announcements like this hold significant importance for several reasons: 1️⃣ They highlight the power of partnerships with industry, unions, colleges, and community organizations that are dedicated to supporting members from equity deserving groups, just like Build a Dream. These collaborations are crucial in creating a more inclusive and diverse workforce. 2️⃣ We have the opportunity to challenge and change the narrative around women and work. It's time to debunk the outdated notion that "women don't apply" or "aren't interested in the skilled trades." The truth is, women are more than capable and eager to contribute to these fields. What we need are purposeful, intentional, and targeted recruitment efforts to bridge the gap. 3️⃣ It's essential to acknowledge the barriers that exist and to think outside of the box to create initiatives that work. We must be willing to change our approach and explore innovative solutions. By doing so, we can break down barriers and create meaningful opportunities for all. 4️⃣ Investment from both government and industry is crucial to ensure that no one is left behind in the workforce. It's through these investments that we can provide equal access and support to individuals from underrepresented groups, fostering a more inclusive and prosperous society. Lastly, let's take a moment to reflect on the impact of this particular project. With only 120 registered female apprentices in industrial mechanic millwright roles in Ontario, this initiative will increase representation by 8%, adding 10 incredible women to the field! Just imagine the possibilities if we all committed to increasing our numbers by even 2-10%. Together, we can achieve remarkable results. I am honored to be a part of an organization like Build a Dream that is dedicated to driving positive change in the workforce. Let's continue to push boundaries, challenge stereotypes, and build a future where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive. #BuildADream #DiversityandInclusion #EmpoweringWomen #BreakingBarriers #WorkforceDevelopment

As part of National Reconciliation Week, the Winslow Group has launched its online Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Appreciation training. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. As Australians, we can all be proud to be the home of one of the oldest continuous civilisations on Earth, extending back more than 65,000 years. Our Cultural Appreciation training course aims to increase employees’ awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their culture. Cultural awareness is a first step towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural competency, which refers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. The focus of our training is to provide background and context, and then to move into appropriate behaviour from Winslow employees. Each person at Winslow is empowered to make good decisions to look after each other as family, be accountable to each other and be committed to operating safely. It’s the Winslow Way. #Winslow #TheWinslowWay #WinslowLearning #WinslowCommunity #NRW2024 #NationalReconciliationWeek2024

What is the United Brotherhood of Carpenters? Not only is the UBC an organization of brothers and sisters that have come together for a greater good, workers rights, a fair wage, and a better life…it is a legacy. What is a legacy? A legacy is something that lasts for generations and generations to come, if we choose to believe in it. A legacy which was fought for, bled for, and died for. As a second generation carpenter, I, myself must carry on my father’s legacy…but it is much deeper than this. As brothers and sisters of the UBC, we must build upon the legacy of old. We must not forget where we started but also we must focus on what’s ahead and what we are becoming. Although the destination seems far, we must not focus our attention solely on where we are going, but where we are growing. Going forward , we must keep our heads on a swivel and our boots on the ground to see real change. As Peter McGuire said, organize, agitate, and educate. Without these three components, we risk compromising our entire organization. We must not sit back and grow complacent, we must come together collectively with our ideas, values, training, and positive attitudes. This will allow us to grow the market share, secure better benefits, improve diversity, and ultimately build one of the greatest union organizations in the world. #centralmidwestcarpenters #unionstrong #carpentersunion

Great advice for travelers abroad.
Traveling abroad for Spring Break can be an unforgettable experience, but it's important to remember that safety should always be a top priority. Did you know that 90% of missing person reports are filed by over-intoxicated students who have simply lost their way? Kidnapping is not the cause. As someone who has traveled with artists and bands overseas, I know that following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) is crucial to ensuring everyone's safety. Our proven checklist runs on a 60-minute timeline and includes a safety brief that helps us find missing persons. One of our briefing points is taking a group photo before heading out and sending it to everyone in the group. This way, we know what everyone is wearing and can easily identify them if they get lost. This is just one item on the checklist that we follow to ensure a successful trip. But it’s not just about the checklist. It’s also about building relationships with the resorts, law enforcement, hospitals, and local groups. These connections add to our success in ensuring everyone's safety. Planning and following SOP is key to having a safe Spring Break abroad. Let's make sure that everyone comes home safe and sound. #lmc #springbreak2024 #lvin #juscollege #cabosanlucas #collegestudents #safetmanagememt #collegeparents
