Standard Terminology for maritime supply chains - do we need new international standards? ASTM’s digital information in the supply chain committee (F49) has begun a review of the most commonly used supply chain glossaries. The results so far is that there is a clear lack of standardization. The MTDI Lexicon, an effort developed and led by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), consists of 200 terms that will be used for future FMC rulemaking. The goal of the review is to publish a technical paper that provides recommendations for harmonizing the most commonly used supply chain glossaries with the MTDI Lexicon. https://lnkd.in/dm4zCzcQ

COMESA, SADC, EAC and the TFTA: preserving the REC FTA acquis? The TFTA entered into force today. With negotiations starting in 2008, the COMESA-SADC-EAC tripartite initiative initially aimed to consolidate all three RECs into one. The attempt rested on three pillars: ➡️ Market integration (which materialised today), ➡️ Industrial development, and ➡️ Infrastructure development. The market integration dimension aimed to enhance existing schemes by "automatically extend[ing] duty-free treatment to all other Tripartite Member States" (cf. draft 2010 negotiating text - cf. tralac | Trade Law Centre's TFTA resources webpage). However, the process quickly transitioned to a traditional request-and-offer approach. ⏩ Flash forward to 2024 Significant differences in origin regimes show among the three different RECs, laying the groundwork for the ongoing TFTA rules of origin negotiations. The factsheet presents some insights from the comparative work.

EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement and the role of the Domestic Advisory Groups(in the EU and the UK) that represent business, trade unions and other civil society organisations: - They monitor the implementation of the agreement and raise problems with governments. - For the first time the whole agreement is being monitored and not just the sustainable development chapter. - The conclusion of a trade agreement means closer economic ties and the removal of barriers which is not the case of the U.K. since the country is no longer in the single market and the customs union. These were some of the points raised in the hearing in the European Parliament- INTA Committee- on the role of the DAGs in EU trade agreements that I participated as Chair of EU DAG in the EU-UK TCA

This afternoon and tomorrow, GSCC Executive Director Adina Renee Adler is participating in the annual meeting of the signatories (of which the GSCC is an original) to the Steel Standards Principles, co-organized by the World Trade Organization, World Steel Association (worldsteel) and The Villars Institute Institute. It has been an active year of consultations among the group: 🗺️ Awaiting the results of worldsteel’s steel standards mapping project to illuminate overlaps and divergences among the programs; 📋 Exploring common reporting boundaries that would promote product comparisons; 🧮 How to upgrade emissions data collection that would enhance the accuracy of emissions measurement; and 🤝 Opportunities to create interoperability of existing programs. GSCC members and original signatories Nucor Corporation and Steel Manufacturers Association are also participating.
