Why do so many data projects fail? Sure, I often talk about the importance of including training (don’t worry, I’ll get on my high horse about that another time). But here’s another reason: no one cares how accurate your model is if you can’t explain its value. That means being able to: - Present it effectively to your teammates and stakeholders. - Quantify its value in business terms. - Explain which decisions it supports. - Show how it delivers actionable insights. If you can’t do these things, your model won’t have the impact you want—no matter how accurate it is. The takeaway? Communication and context are just as important as precision in data work.

If you are aware of the 70 20 10 learning model, then you would know where most of the learning occurs - on the job experience, socially and formal training. What has been fascinating with this for me is that the 20% is what has supported and equipped me whilst I get on with the 70%.
