The academic team at The Development Manager (TDM) already know that our learners will use GenAI LLM tools to write their assignments. Of course they will. The problem arising for them, though, is that: 1. AI has usually got a pretty bland (soulless) writing style. 2. AI makes some really good points, but it also nearly always misses the point. It misses the more localised and more hypersonalised magic of expressing yourself genuinely as you apply theory to practice then reflect on that theory. We therefore set the use of the LLM Gen AI tool as a preparatory "Professional Research" Task. Next, we ask learners to gather evidence artefacts as they apply the concepts they learn from their AI tool (and other educational resources) in their "Genuinely Work-based Learning" tasks. Conequently, our learners use their #Mahara ePortfolio tool to craft a reflective narrative about what they learned, how they learned it and, most importantly, how they applied these new understandings to their work.

Many educators are worried about their learners using generative AI tools to crank out their assignments without critically thinking about the tasks at hand.
