At last year's American Society For Metabolic And Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Conference, BariNation Founder and CEO April Williams presented an e-poster with Dr. Edmund Chen on the positive impact peer-led communities can have on bariatric patient outcomes. Our community study shows that most respondents felt less isolated while participating in a peer-led community. They were more likely to connect with their bariatric care team for post-operative follow-up and were more adequate to their post-operative care plan. If you are a patient, have you found that participation in a peer-led community has positively impacted your bariatric journey? If you are a provider, do you help your patients connect with and become involved with reputable peer-led communities? #barination #peersupport #obesity #obesitytreatment #supportgroup

Hospital Journey Valuable Revelation/Insight #1 - There I was, my ego deflating in a hospital bed, presented with a much-needed reality check. My trifecta of narcotics, boredom, and abdominal discomfort led to an unexpected revelation - the surprising significance of a simple bodily function! Bear with me on this. After undergoing abdominal surgery, the act of passing gas becomes a triumphant sign of recovery. It signals that you're not on the brink of severe bowel complications! This realization rendered my everyday anxieties somewhat superfluous. This has me questioning Why we often preoccupy ourselves with the insignificant. Instead of cherishing the present moment, we allow our minds to be consumed by things beyond our control. Four men cheered for something as mundane as bowel movements in that sterile hospital room. It was an odd celebration of life, a profound realization wrapped in a peculiar package. I urge you to reflect: How many precious moments have you squandered on inconsequential worries? Let's strive to be more present, starting this minute! Could you practice this for the next hour? And the hour after that? #FoodForThought #SelfReflection #LifeLessons #LivingInTheMoment #MentalToughness #Persistence #AccountabilityCoach

🧬 June is XLH Awareness (US) Month 🧬 Living with XLH (X-linked hypophosphatemia) is a constant challenge, often necessitating surgery to manage its symptoms. Surgeries, such as osteotomies to correct bone deformities or dental procedures to address issues caused by defective dentin, become a crucial part of managing XLH. The journey through surgery is daunting, involving not only physical pain but also emotional and mental resilience. Post-operative care can be demanding, requiring extensive rehabilitation and adjustments to daily activities to accommodate the healing process. Despite these hardships, the dedication and expertise of a multi disciplinary medical care/specialists play a pivotal role in improving the quality of life for those with XLH. Their skill and compassion offer hope and relief, enabling patients to navigate their condition with greater ease and optimism. The gratitude felt towards these medical professionals is immense, as their work is instrumental in helping patients regain mobility, alleviate pain, and lead more fulfilling lives. #XLHAwarenessMonth #XLinkedHypophosphatemia #XLHStrong #WeAreRare #RareDiseaseAwareness #SupportAndAwareness #StrongerTogether #XLHAustralia #InternationalXLHAlliance #XLH #XLHNetwork #Advocacy #RareDisease #SupportResearch #XLHCommunity #YourXLHJourney
