Climate Change and Mental Health: Denial, Anxiety and Intersections with Social Work Practice with Chelsea Rissner, LCSW. One of the most pressing problems facing our planet is the escalating climate crisis. As social workers, it is our responsibility to address systemic and environmental oppression and its subsequent harm on people and the planet. In this session, participants will explore intersections between climate change and mental health. They will learn about the disparate effects of climate change on marginalized populations and current research will be explored. Both macro and clinical interventions will be discussed, and concrete advocacy and further training resources will be provided. Finally, the relationship between the climate crisis, the profession of social work and our code of ethics will be examined. Only eight percent of financial aid recipients in Columbia's School of General Studies have their full demonstrated financial need met, compared to 97 percent of recipients in Columbia’s other undergraduate schools. In order to make up for the gap between financial need and financial aid, some GS students pick up part-time or full-time employment, creating a situation that can be physically and mentally taxing, impeding their ability to fully immerse themselves in their studies and preventing them from accessing important resources and career opportunities. https://lnkd.in/e4-mUujq
