Last week, Michael Sternberg, Sid Kato, and I traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to attend Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS). The event was larger than any other industry event I've attended, and I'd like to share a few key takeaways. 1. Carriers view Brokers in a very negative light. This is something that needs to be addressed. Neither business exists without the other, so instead of working against one another, we need to find a path forward to work beside one another that benefits all parties in a positive light. 2. The presence of numerous families at MATS underscored the familial nature of the trucking industry. During MATS, an idea popped into my head that would actually consider where a trucker lives and recommend lanes that keep him or her closer to home while continuing to stay profitable. Most of us take for granted how good we have it when we get to go home each night to our families after work. 3. Despite not directly serving the asset community, our participation at MATS proved invaluable. It highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration with brokers, carriers, and shippers to enhance the shipping lifecycle. Going forward, we plan on attending other supply chain events that give us a better viewpoint from all angles of our industry so that we can better serve our users and their customers.
