This independence day as our Hon’ble Prime Minister shared his vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, it's clear that achieving this ambitious goal will require all-round efforts from various sectors and stakeholders. However, couple of areas in my opinion will need special focus: Skill development and fostering higher women participation in our workforce. While India's demographic dividend presents a unique opportunity, it's crucial to equip our youth with industry-relevant skills to harness this potential. Skill development initiatives, such as Skill India Mission, National Education Policy, and PMKVY, must be prioritized to enhance employability, foster innovation, and drive economic growth. Simultaneously, addressing gender disparities and promoting higher women participation in the workforce is vital. With women's participation stagnating at around 25%, it's essential to: - Encourage women's entrepreneurship and employment - Provide safe and inclusive workplaces - Address societal biases and stereotypes - Promote STEM education for girls With special attention towards these two critical areas, we can make good progress towards driving inclusive growth, and achieve Viksit Bharat. The Government's policy push and initiatives are a step in the right direction, but we need to all stakeholders from public and private sector ecosystem to come together and do our bit towards this objective. What is Freedom? Recently I had the opportunity of visiting an Old Age Home with 85 seating capacity—fully occupied with majority women. As one of the amma asked me “Beta kahan se aayi ho”. I could feel the longingness in her eyes to go HOME, which she must have built with a lot of aspirations. It made me ponder how their life would have been different if they were #financially ‘#independent’ and ‘#literate’. Why I quote these two terms complimentary is many of these women were financially independent when they were young but not literate enough to plan their future to plan their retirement in order to have #FREEDOM to spend their lives as per their will in the most demanding age and not rely on their sons or daughter or daughter in laws or husband…… NO BODY AT ALL. A short term of service may give financial freedom to the low line workers but may not give them thought to build their future. Contrary, entrepreneurship can be an effective medium to gain not just economic freedom but freedom of thoughts, freedom to live, freedom to dream. As I meet these women, can’t express my gratitude enough to be a part of such an initiative called #TechShakti lead by Jagriti Enterprise Centre - Purvanchal for women in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. With this initiative we can atleast help some Uma, Lajjwati, Geeta, Suresh amma and appas to have their own shelters in old age. This liberty of choosing my way to be in the real #Freedom for me. PS: Though I like to keep such visits closed, couldn’t stop from sharing what impact such initiatives can create in lives of people around us.

During my research, I came across an inspiring initiative that embodies this idea perfectly: Goodfellows India by Shantanu Naidu. This startup is not just 'doing well,' it's doing great, and here's why: Goodfellows India recognizes that our society thrives when different generations come together, learn from each other, and support one another. Through their innovative approach, they are breaking down barriers and fostering meaningful connections between seniors and young people. #ILightGlobal ; #inspiringcommunities I Light Global has a branch at Malibu Towne, Gurugram. It has become a benchmark of community project in nine months. It’s unique in ways more than one as (a) the community adopted it, (b) the community takes pride in its existence within its complex, (c) residents are putting in their efforts (i) emotionally, (ii) financially & (iii) physically. While some are paying stipend to Volunteer, a retired teacher is reliving her teaching dream post retirement by reconnecting with children. She is coming daily with devotion and dedication to match with it. Then another resident believes that non-formal-education, non-brick-mortar model of I Light Global is perfect for India. This model (which is the only migrant children oriented model in India) is also the only non-formal-education non-brick-mortar model. It’s the most effective and cost effective model. It fulfills the dream of society of turning vegabond children into an educated responsible citizen. An inspired resident has provided uniform to all children, two Shirts, two pants, two pair of socks and a pair of shoes. In nutshell, this has become a mini school imparting education to children who could never dream of getting admission in schools. The new uniform has bestowed uniformity. Children are only in win win situation.
