Can You Learn Creativity? Syncreate Podcast Episode 48 with Creative Director Chris McKenna. Full episode here: https://lnkd.in/gXgAdcjH Is creativity something you’re born with, or can you learn it? In this episode, we talk with creative director and writer Chris McKenna about creativity as a skill that we can learn and practice. Chris is the founder of Wee Beastie, a creative agency based in Los Angeles. Part of his work with clients and organizations involves teaching people about the creative process. We discuss his journey from technician to creative director, and his mission to help illuminate the creative process. For our Creativity Pro-Tip, we encourage you to print out a picture of a lightbulb and post it on your wall. Believe it or not, this is a proven technique to stimulate creative ideation. And for a bonus tip, whenever you start to feel stalled in your creative process, go for a walk in the woods. This is another way to stimulate your mind and get the creative juices flowing again. #syncreate #syncreatepodcast #creativity #creativeprocess #psychology #spirituality #inspiration #ideation #storytelling #melindarothouse #chrismckenna #podcast #weebeastie #finalpixel Final Pixel

In my quest to become a better #leader, I found the book "Connect" by Carole Robin, Ph.D. and David Bradford.📚 Normally, I quickly get through business books, but this one takes time because it needs a lot of practice. ➡️Key message of the book: Contact ≠ Connection. Real connection happens when we open up and let ourselves be vulnerable. I'm still reading, but here’s what I’ve learned so far: ⚔️Don’t fear conflicts. Solving them can strengthen relationships. 🚪Opening up 15% is enough to connect with someone. You choose what that 15% looks like, but deeper relationship growth lies beyond that initial opening. 🕸️ We have many choices in how we respond to situations. 🫴🏻 Advice is rarely useful, even when solicited. 🙌🏻 Empathy is different from sympathy. ❓‘Why' questions make people think instead of feel, and feelings help us connect. If you aren’t into books, check out Carole’s episode on Lenny Rachitsky’s podcast. It's also worth it! 💥 #leadership #growth #communication #relationships

Research proves that my use of humor at work is good! I can't wait to tell my mom. I feel validated. 😄 I just finished listening to the most recent Steelcase podcast episode titled "Why We Need More Humor at Work" with Jennifer Aaker and Naomi Bagdonas where they talked about humor in the workplace and different humor styles, which, by the way, we all have. Leaders with a sense of humor are not only seen as about 28% more admired, but they also inspire and motivate their teams. According to research, their teams are twice as creative and 15% more engaged. And the best part? You don't need to be a full-time standup comedian to reap these benefits. There are four types of humor styles, each with its own unique charm. I took the quiz to discover mine and it turns out I'm a Standup. What's yours? Take the quiz and share your results in the comments. Caste and Religion in the Boardroom? On one end, an organisation is a reflection of the times and the ecosystem we are in, and on the other - the focus of the organisation is simply to maximise shareholder value whilst providing a meaningful opportunity for employees. This paradox of which end of the pool to jump into, is left upto the ethos of the organisation and doesn’t come with a manual. Here is Rashmi’s take on some of these ideas. Is this what leadership success looks like now? (Because according to my LinkedIn feed, this is it... ) “I’m thrilled to announce my new book!” One year later… “I’m thrilled to announce my new podcast!” I’m not saying that these aren’t accomplishments. They are. And they are something that should be celebrated. What I am saying is that this is NOT what all success looks like. Every leader I talk to is working on their book, their podcast, and/or their speech (in many ways, so am I!). The reality is that there is always room for one more. But, I don’t understand how this has become the standard for success. Not everyone is meant to be a thought leader, a "personality" or on stage. That's just the truth. And, that's ok! I’ve always thought of success as doing what you love while making enough money to enjoy life. Maybe it’s not even that. Maybe it’s just about finding joy in your everyday life? If you aren’t working on your book, your podcast, or your TED talk I’m here to tell you you can and will still be successful. What is the goal for some isn’t the goal for us all. #goodadvice #success #leadership #personalbranding #book #tedtalk #podcast
