Love this Work on Climate interview with our Head of Product Sabah Zdanowska about her transition into climate tech. She shares the challenges of building a no-code interface for complex energy systems modelling, and what it's like guiding a company pivoting into software and data products. There's also some great advice on how to land a coveted role in product!

More of this kind of thing would be helpful right about now. Tip of the hat to Galvanize Climate Solutions and Tom Steyer.
Co-Executive Chair of Galvanize Climate Solutions. NYT Bestselling Author for Cheaper, Faster, Better.
As I detail in my upcoming book Cheaper, Faster, Better, in 1981 I worked out of Exxon’s Alaska headquarters and fell in love with the beautiful natural landscape. Twenty-five years later, I brought my family there, excited to share the beauty with them. But it had melted away. I’d read about climate change before, but it seemed distant, on the horizon. On January 1, 2013, I walked away from Farallon Capital to fight climate change. I was a climate activist, worked with the leading universities to fund climate tech research, and focused on climate policy issues in California and across the United States. This work informed my now-focused mission to bring investors into the climate fold. Capitalism and investment provide the necessary resources, incentives, and market mechanisms to drive the transition to a low-carbon economy. By harnessing the power of the market, we can accelerate the adoption of clean technologies, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Mōrena, and Happy Tuesday which means newsletter day! 🌞 This week we reflect on the tangible potential for radical climate action - simple yet impactful changes we could literally implement tomorrow! Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending a Climate Fresk Aotearoa workshop (hosted by our very own Emily Sutton), where we delved into climate science in a collaborative, gamified format. 💡 What amazed me most was the spectrum of ideas and opportunities for action that emerged when we put our heads together. From knowing where our strengths lie to help transition to passive low-carbon buildings, or supporting farmers as custodians of the land; the solutions are within our reach. 💪 The challenge is not so much a technical one, but rather social and political. What we need to do now is prioritize these straightforward actions and push for the changes needed to make them a reality. Check out our latest piece: “Translating Climate Science for All: The Power of Data Storytelling” published by CLIMACT. In today's data-driven world, we're flooded with information. But how do we make sense of it all, especially when it comes to climate action? That's where storytelling comes in. We harness the power of storytelling to humanise scientific insights, bringing them to life in a way that resonates with everyone. By weaving high-quality data into compelling narratives, we're not just explaining climate action — we're making it relatable and accessible. Why does this matter? Because understanding drives action. When people grasp the science behind environmental challenges, they're more likely to support policies and initiatives that promote sustainability. Five Canada's we are; and understanding how to communicate climate issues to these different constituencies is critical to move the dial on climate change mitigation and impacts. Re.Climate webinars are always excellent, so check out this one featuring research undertaken by EcoAnalytics.
The Building Support for Climate Action webinar series continues! Next week, we will continue learning about the Five Canadas audience segments. This time, we will hear from Dr. Louise Comeau, communications consultant Christopher Hatch, and My Climate Plan co-founder Jamie Biggar about the messages and images to use for different audiences. Apply: https://lnkd.in/dxRvMueR #ikokazike The Focus for 2024: Visions of a Climate Just Future The Doc Society Climate Story Fund is seeking to support compelling storytelling and impact strategies from around that world that can help audiences envision the just transition, and activate them to make these visions a reality. We will prioritize applicants that creatively explore how communities today are experimenting with new pathways for a more safe and just future for all; how responsive governments and civil society are counteracting the efforts of a fossil fuel industry determined to slow down the radical transformation of our livelihoods; and how leaders are steadfastly navigating complexity as they remain committed to repairing past harms. We are eager for stories that showcase how climate action can lead to abundance. How systems are being redesigned to be more inclusive, creating more opportunities without leaving anyone behind. Not stories that are overloaded in technical language and facts. Rather stories that deeply resonate with a universal love for place, love for community, and love for future generations.

Former Special Assistant to the President for Climate Policy at The White House; Professor of the Practice at Stanford's Doerr School of Sustainability and Stanford Law School.
I am excited to be part of the @DataFoundation's new Climate Data Collaborative -- a public/private initiative to improve how climate data is generated and shared. To effectively fight #climatechange, we need to develop consensus-based protocols that will more accurately measure and monitor GHG emissions #reductions and #removals. And we need to democratize the data that these protocols generate -- making performance information accessible to the many users who need to track climate progress at the project level. Key targets of opportunity include #methane emissions from oil & gas, landfills & livestock, and #nature-based climate solutions. Let's do this!
🌎 Exciting news from the Data Foundation! We're launching the Climate Data Collaborative during #ClimateWeek, with support from the Doris Duke Foundation. Our new initiative aims to foster collaboration, facilitate public-private partnerships, and bring actionable climate data to users. 👉 Excited to be joined by our expert advisory board that includes David J. Hayes, Jason Burnett, & Ryan Alexander with support from Sonia Wang. Together our collaborative is bringing together policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and community stakeholders. 👀 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eJMUgSQM #ClimateWeekNY #ClimateData #OpenData
