Love a good (and innovative) Rail solution, Maersk has released and envisions a new rail route, akin to the old Silk Road, linking China and Southeast Europe. This Middle Corridor offers a vital alternative to sea freight, increasingly jeopardized by Red Sea attacks and Russian sanctions. It promises not only to complement sea routes but to stimulate markets in Central Asia and the Caucasus, enhancing regional independence. The rail route’s cargo volume surged by 250% in 2022, yet it struggles against sea freight for heavy goods. Still, the pandemic and geopolitical upheavals have heightened interest in alternative routes, making rail a viable, green option. Maersk, aiming for efficiency and sustainability, has reduced transit times and expanded its network. Rail can’t rival the scale of sea freight, but it offers speed and sustainability. Each train carries far less than a ship, but rail can become a green corridor faster than air or sea freight. Central Asia benefits from this route, developing into a significant market. For the future, rail must play a bigger role in supply chains. It’s a compromise between speed and cost but offers a critical solution in an unstable world. Leveraging rail could ease sea freight pressure and promote environmental sustainability. #RailTransport #SustainableLogistics #SupplyChainSolutions #MiddleCorridor #GreenFreight #CentralAsiaMarkets #GlobalLogistics

🚢 Carriers Scramble for Tonnage! 🚢 In the dynamic world of ocean shipping, carriers are in a frantic race to secure vessels for east-west services. With charter costs soaring, the stakes are high, and everyone is feeling the pressure. French carrier #CMACGM recently announced the French Peak Service, adding seven sailings with 7,000 TEU vessels from Asia to North Europe and the Mediterranean, starting with the APL Oregon on 30 June. #MSC isn’t far behind, launching the Britannia service and reinstating the Mustang transpacific express service. Meanwhile, #Sealead is introducing a new direct service between China, South Korea, and California. Peter Sand of Xeneta highlights that tonnage providers are capitalizing on this surge, with charter rates skyrocketing. #Maersk 's recent charters illustrate this shift, with vessels now commanding premium rates. As Lars Jensen of Vespucci Maritime points out, these developments echo pandemic-level conditions, hinting at tight market conditions persisting. For shippers, this means higher costs and deteriorating service levels. #Shipping #Logistics #SupplyChain #Maritime #OceanFreight #EastWestRoutes #Tonnage #CharterRates David Sweet, Ph.D. Simon Jelfs Jonathan Cant Jack Stone Jamieson Paling Ed Chynoweth David Chong Stephanie Dickeson FocusCore Japan https://lnkd.in/gqTFVyYk

I talk with clients about the "ocean leg" of shipping almost daily. Yesterday I had a new client on the phone and explained how/why they need to secure their goods properly when loading a dedicated FCL shipment. My usually analogy is to say - "picture a jar of pickles - and then picture it while shaking it and after". The nicely arranged pickles will move, sometimes fall apart, and when you stop there will be stuff sinking to the bottom and floating to the top. That is not how you want to picture your freight inside of a container. But containers *DO* undergo rough seas sometimes and so securing freight is a must. Our team utilizes all kinds of goods to help load, secure and protect your freight while in transit. From pallet tables to airbags, dunnage, plywood, etc - our team works to ensure that your goods are properly loaded and secure for safe transit. Our goal - "service in every shipment" which means that your freight arrives to the receiver looking the same as it did when it left the shipper! #service #lclfreight #cargo #oceanfreight #containerfreight #ltl #shipping
