Our managing director, Joseph M. Shields, Esq., was featured in this article from Inside Health Policy about the new move for #PBM transparency from Optum. Oversight is needed across the industry, but how can these large companies regulate themselves in terms of profit? It is a good first step as far as statement purposes go, but it hides what is really going on in the company. Patients and companies should do business in healthcare with someone who is transparent and has progressive policies all around. What you can't find with the Big Three, look into it with our coalition members. https://lnkd.in/emH-dwub

"The job of the P.B.M.s is to reduce drug costs. Instead, they frequently do the opposite." That's from this morning's The New York Times front-page article; it's an incredible read on the #PharmacyBenefitManagement industry based on what appears to be exceptional due diligence. For six years, we've been battling the "status quo" traditional PBM business model's opacity and misaligned incentives, which have thrived at the expense of payers and patients despite clear warnings. If you've ever heard A. J. Loiacono, Ryan Kelly, Kristin Begley, PharmD, et al. speak at conferences, on webinars, or at finalist meetings, then you know why we're saying, "Thank you, Rebecca Robbins and Reed Abelson, for highlighting how clear and present many of the issues remain, as well as the real impact they have on America's healthcare consumers." #PharmacyBenefitAdministration #AlignmentMatters #DrugPrices #HealthCareCosts Check out the article here: https://okt.to/4DdjPJ

DKI Health’s Jamie Culp and the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation's Philip Gattone presented “Amplifying Patient Voice in Market Access” at the 4th Chief Patient Officer Summit (#CPOSummit). What to know: • Health insurers are covering fewer drugs and making them harder to get. • New utilization management (UM) tactics emerge as payers and pharma fight over cost sharing: patients pay the heavy price. • Payers apply artificial intelligence (AI) to limit patient care—sometimes against clinician opinion and Medicare rules. • Drug access has been protected by patient advocacy in legislatures, courts, and prescription drug affordability boards (PDAB). Patients and advocates can be a difference-maker in winning and maintaining access—if we understand and address their needs. • NBDF’s Comprehensive Care Sustainability Collaborative shows the opportunity for collaboration with payers, providers, and patients to ensure treatment access. #DKImpact #patientvoice #marketaccess

Another passionate discussion about #policy #reforms to the #pharmacybenefitsmanager #pbm industry this morning at @TheHillEvents #TheHillHealth. The key take-away for me: this is a very complex industry, and, despite bipartisan and bicameral support for legislative reform, an issue with a LOT of different viewpoints and proposed policy solutions. It is also an issue that directly impacts the health and economic wellbeing of patients and families across the country, with many #raredisease patients disproportionately impacted due to overall high healthcare utilization and many #orphandrugs on specialty tiers of the formulary. My sincere hope is that any reform package that may come together - this spring, later in the lame duck session, next year, or sometime in the more distant future - actually directly benefits our patients and families. It is just too easy for the true needs of the end-consumer to get lost in the debate. https://lnkd.in/gfkbqWAb
