The risks of drinking and driving home from country racing events are highlighted in our latest campaign with Country Racing Victoria, where we urge all racegoers to get home safely. The campaign follows a tragic year on Victoria’s roads in 2024, with 282 lives lost compared with 295 in 2023. More than half of these fatalities in 2024 were in regional areas. “We’re working closely with Country Racing Victoria to ensure there are enough safe transport options available for racegoers across the state,” said TAC CEO Tracey Slatter. The new content features Everyday Heroes of Ballarat, who play significant roles in making a race day happen – a horse handler, an operations manager and a designated driver. The TAC has partnered with CRV for more than 15 years to reach the many Victorians who attend these popular regional events with our drink driving message. This year the TAC will be present at more than 20 Country Cups with drink driving information and a prize draw. “It is vital for all racegoers to plan ahead, not only for the event itself but also for their transportation needs. CRV and country clubs remain committed to working with the TAC to promote this important educational message,” said Country Racing Victoria Chairman Chas Armytage. #TACVictoria #roadsafety #roadsafetyawareness #partnerships #countryracing #regionalVictoria

Fantastic numbers and a real lesson in how to engage successfully with younger audiences.
The TAB Everest, Sydney’s premier race day, has officially sold out for the first time since its launch in 2017. With 50,000 racegoers set to attend this weekend, this milestone highlights the event’s growing popularity, particularly among younger audiences, with 35% of attendees aged 18-24 and over half of all tickets being General Admission. The TAB Everest has successfully attracted a new generation of racegoers, drawn to the thrilling racing and the exceptional value of a day at the races, with Joel Corry performing the After the Last concert for this year. Australian Turf Club CEO Matt Galanos said, “The TAB Everest’s sell-out crowd is vindication of the original vision of Racing NSW in creating the Everest concept and a testament to the event's evolution and the excitement it brings to the racing calendar. We’ve focused on creating an engaging, value-packed experience, particularly for younger audiences, and this result demonstrates our success in achieving that vision.”

It's a win on debut in R&G British Talent Cup for Marco Morelli; 🥇 Marco Morelli 🥈 Ryan frost racing 🥉 Julian Alessandro Correa 4th. Filip Surowiak #FS75 5th. Lucas Brown 6th. Ronnie Harris 7th. Harrison Mackay Racing HMR #61 8th. Mason Foster 9th. Joshua Raymond Jr 10th. Scott McPhee #MotoGP #BritishTalentCup #BSB 🌟 Exciting developments are unfolding at BSB! 🌟 The young talent who recently took a wild card entry to Thruxton BSB and came from the European Talent Cup, has made quite an impression, securing the fastest lap and finishing a remarkable 12 seconds ahead of the competition. This performance certainly highlights his potential, but it raises an important question: how much has his European training environment contributed to his impressive progression? In the ETC whilst the bikes remain the same spec, riders benefit from the availability of high-quality European circuits for practice which stands in stark contrast to the UK, where options are limited to just a few tracks. Ben Spies recently pointed out that riders who begin their careers on Moto3 bikes are more likely to understand the nuances of a high-performance machine, which ultimately enhances their ability to excel on production models. Conversely, those who come from a different background may face challenges due to a lack of reference points. I strongly advocate for the adoption of adjustable chassis in competitive racing, particularly for classes like 400cc and 800cc. However, as I observe the current landscape of motorcycle racing and its demographic, I can't help but wonder about the longevity of manufacturers' investments in research and development for bikes that primarily cater to racing demands. What does this mean for the future of racing? While I am confident that a solution exists among industry leaders, it appears my ideas are not being considered. Let's engage in a constructive dialogue about the future of our sport! 🏍️💨 #Racing #MotorcycleSport #FutureOfRacing

Last week's 150th running of the Kentucky Derby had us all on the edge of our seats, with Mystik Dan's breathtaking victory stealing the spotlight and captivating the horse racing world. As expected, social media was buzzing with discussions after that thrilling photo finish, but amidst the excitement, one key element often gets overlooked – the jockeys. Despite hundreds of thousands of posts flooding social media about the Kentucky Derby, only a mere 9,348 mentioned the race's jockeys. While this isn't insignificant and could hold some marketability value, it's surprising how little attention jockeys receive compared to athletes in other sports during their big moments. There's a real opportunity for jockeys to enhance their marketability. Consider this: the horse racing industry is projected to reach a staggering $812.48 billion market size by 2030. With jockeys' unique blend of skills – from understanding horse behavior and psychology, to their athleticism, and the vast resources available in such a large industry, the potential for them to build personal brands is truly fascinating. Even in their current position, jockeys could offer value to brands and potentially provide a significant return on investment as the sport continues to grow. However, any sponsorship arrangement must make sense for both parties, ensuring that the brand's audience aligns with the jockey's fan base. As we celebrate Mystik Dan's victory and the enduring outcome of the 150th Kentucky Derby, it's crucial to highlight these discussions and potential opportunities. With the Preakness Stakes on May 18th marking the next leg of the Triple Crown, all eyes will once again be on Mystik Dan and jockey Brian Hernandez Jr, presenting another chance to make waves in the world of horse racing. #KentuckyDerby #HorseRacing #Marketability #sportsbiz

Good to catch up with Gosford Race Club CEO Daniel Lacey to see the excellent progress being made on a project to re-camber the club’s track. Jointly funded by the Gosford Race Club and Racing NSW, the $2 million project will greatly benefit racing at the club for years to come. As Daniel says, “a consistent camber on the home turn, especially on a tighter track like Gosford, is imperative for competitive racing. “This project will enable horses, regardless of their race positioning, a greater chance of winning a race. That, in turn, will make Gosford more attractive to a wider range of trainers and horses and more appealing for punters.” The works are expected to be completed in a month. The project follows the recent $3.4 million investment into a new all-weather training track for the club that was part of ‘Racing for the Regions’– a $67 million program to fund rural and regional racing infrastructure announced in 2021-22. Racing is a $3.3 billion industry in NSW that directly or indirectly sustains more than 50,000 local jobs. More than half of racing’s economic impact is in rural or regional NSW. Facilities such as the Entertainment Grounds - the home of the Gosford Race Club - are a great example of this. The Entertainment Grounds

Latest data from RED C Research confirms what we are seeing on track ... the 18-35 year old market is driving the upward trajectory of key metrics for the sport. On the eve of launching our latest strategic plan for the racing industry it is really encouraging to see the interest levels, attendances and profile of the sport continue to thrive, particularly among younger racegoers. We have seen this at recent festivals in Leopardstown Racecourse, Fairyhouse Racecourse and fully expect to see it in the week ahead at Punchestown Racecourse & Event Venue and Galway Races later this summer. Also really encouraging to see the positive experiences of younger racegoers is contributing to a stronger likelihood to advocate for the sport and get involved in racehorse ownership. - 45% of 18-34s attended a horse racing meeting in 2023 up from 40% - 46% of 18-34s interested in attending future racing meetings up 13% - Almost half (47%) of sports fans interested in horse racing - 3 in 10 18–34-year-olds are strong advocates for horsing racing, up 5% Huge kudos to the Horse Racing Ireland team led by Aileen Goatley for the relentless focus on achieving these key metrics for the sport and to Amber O’Grady for the continued interest levels in horse ownership which is borne out by this research.
