Thanksgiving U.S. Air Travel is Expected to Skyrocket to an ‘All-Time High’! This Year 31 million+ passengers are anticipated to fly on U.S. carriers over the entire Thanksgiving holiday period – an increase of 7% YOY and 11% over 2019. An average of 2.8 million passengers are expected daily - a 5% increase from last year. To meet the surge, carriers are adding 150,000 more seats per day compared to last year's Thanksgiving holiday period. It’s expected that the busiest days for air travel will be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and Sunday, Dec. 1, each with over 3 million flyers per day projected. “For the U.S., Atlanta (ATL) to Orlando (MCO) takes over the #1 spot in the Top 10 Busiest Domestic Airline Routes list, with 3.5 million seats, a similar capacity to last year and in 2019. Honolulu (HNL) to Kahului (OGG), the busiest domestic route in the U.S. in 2023, ranks #2 this year with 3.4 million seats, 17 percent higher capacity than in 2019. With just 14,941 (up 0.4 percent) seats difference, Las Vegas (LAS) to Los Angeles (LAX) follows closely behind to rank #3. Rounding out the top 5 busiest U.S. domestic routes are Denver (DEN) to Phoenix (PHX) at #4 and Los Angeles (LAX) to San Francisco (SFO) at #5. New York La Guardia (LGA) to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) moves into the top 10 this year at #7.
