TAPA EMEA is seeing consistently high levels of recorded #cargo #thefts in #Italy, including 243 new incidents in July. Monthly attacks on #supplychains across the country have been in three figures since February and last month’s incident total represented a 440% increase over the 45 cargo #crimes identified to the #tapaemea Intelligence System (TIS) in January. Italy now has a regular top 5 position in our country league table for cargo thefts in the Europe, Middle East & Africa region. A €3 million #robbery of a cash-in-transit vehicle en route in the city of Brindisi in southern Italy on 4 July was the highest recorded crime in EMEA in July 2024. However, identifying financial #losses for these crimes remains challenging. Only 18 of the 243 incidents in Italy last month shared a loss value with our TIS database, although these alone accounted for a combined loss of more than €9.3 million of goods from supply chains in 31 days. In addition to shipments of cash, other high value targets have included cosmetics, metal, jewellery/precious metals, tools/building materials, and furniture/household appliances. TAPA EMEA is keen to identify more sources of cargo crime intelligence in Italy. If you have any insights into cargo #security risks or cargo thefts, please share this information with our TIS team. We never ask for nor share the identities of companies or individuals sharing incident information with us. Italy is a major #manufacturing, #freight and #logistics market and the intelligence we share with our industry Association’s members enables them to mitigate risks and prevent losses from their supply chains. You can share crime information with TAPA EMEA at tisteam@tapaemea.org #supplychain #supplychainresilience

It’s summertime and #supplychain professionals across the #Europe, #MiddleEast & #Africa region will be enjoying or preparing to enjoy well-earned holiday time with their families and friends. But, back at base, their #security programmes and #resilience teams will be as active as ever because statistics clearly remind us that organised criminals never take a summer break. Cargo crime in a 24/7/365 ‘business’. Data from the TAPA EMEA Intelligence System (TIS) for recorded #cargo #thefts in our region in July and August 2023 shows a total of 1,780 incidents in 62 countries. This included a €100 million loss of metal from the supply chain inventory of a company in Hamburg, Germany, and a further 351 cargo thefts with a value totalling €49,512,770 or an average of €141,062. Excluding the €100m loss, the other 54 major cargo #losses – goods with a value of €100K or more – produced an average loss value of €841,358. This is all in the space of 62 days last summer. So, as our members know, even when we are personally taking a break, their organisations stay active and stay alert because the risk of cargo crime is never far away. What do we know about #cargo #security and #supplychain #risks in #Africa? Join us in Johannesburg for this special one-day #tapaemea Regional Conference on 6 March 2024, supported by our TAPA EMEA 2024 Premier Partners, to learn more about the current cargo security threats in #southafrica, and to look beyond its borders to try to identify #cargocrime and #supplychainsecurity risks in other prominent African economies. REGISTER NOW https://lnkd.in/eydtfbP4 In 2023, the TAPA EMEA Intelligence System (TIS) recorded 41,120 #crimes across 36 countries in Africa – however, 99% of these incidents took place in just one country: South Africa. 2023 was the first time TAPA EMEA included all incidents provided by the South African Police Service (SAPS) into the Association’s intelligence database. This includes crimes ranging from #truck #hijackings and cash-in-transit robberies to the crime categories for common #robbery, robbery at non-residential premises, burglaries at non-residential premises, and #stock #theft. In the past 12 months, TAPA EMEA has recorded major cargo crimes involving losses of €100,000 or more in South Africa, #Nigeria, #Kenya, #Egypt, #Morocco, and #Ethiopia - but criminal threats to cargo security and #supplychainresilience across Africa still go mostly unreported, despite the heavy presence of #manufacturing, #freight, #logistics, and distribution operators across the continent. Whilst only 0.4% of crimes recorded by TIS contained a financial #loss value, the cost of cargo crime was as significant as anywhere else across the EMEA region: · €56.6 million of goods stolen from supply chains in 365 days · €933,630 - average loss for major cargo crimes of €100K or more · €311,373 – average loss for every crime stating a value · €155,260 – average loss from supply chains in Africa every 24 hours in 2023 This event is free of charge for TAPA EMEA members to attend. Non-members are also invited to register, subject to payment of the 1,800 Rand delegate fee. #tapa #africalogistics #conference #supplychainrisks

Cargo theft figures for the month of February in Europe. Risk managers, underwriters, brokers,… should not underestimate this risk because of any misplaced conviction about the safe environment in ‘well developed Western countries’. I hear this a lot but the stats show otherwise. #theft #europe #risk #cargo

Have you been a victim of #cargo #crime in the past 12 months? If you have, did you share this intelligence with TAPA EMEA? Cargo crime intelligence sits at the heart of our #supplychain #risk management and #lossprevention activities. The more we understand about criminal threats to goods in facilities or #multimodal #transportation, the easier it is for our #manufacturer and #logistics Service Provider members to take action to mitigate the likelihood of a criminal attack. All we ask for is an insight into when, where, and how cargo losses have occurred, the goods targeted by cargo thieves, the M.O. used to facilitate the crime, and, if available, the value of the goods taken. And, please remember, we never record nor share the names of companies or individuals sharing this information with our TAPA EMEA Intelligence System. Right now, we have companies and #lawenforcement agencies sharing 2023 data and intelligence with us to help us build the most accurate picture of the cargo crime environment over the past year in the Europe, Middle East & Africa region. Please help us by sharing your intelligence, too. To find out how to provide your information, please contact tisteam@tapaemea.org #tapaemea #tapa #supplychainsecurity #supplychainresilience #crime
