⏰ As the clock past midnight we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation which impacts our supply chain, commuters, small businesses or farmers alike 🛑 With embargoes already in place as early as last weekend, a large volume of cargo is already stranded between terminals and rail yards which will impact port operations very quickly 💰 For those that have no choice but move cargo via truck, rates are rapidly increasing, as much as 40% over the last couple of days 🔮 The big unknown remains how long the situation will last and what the flow on effects will be (1 day of strike likely equates to 1 week delay in transit) 💡 To understand options and solutions right now and also for the near future, reach out to our team at DHL Global Forwarding #Canada #oceanfreight #rail #strike #lockout #heretohelp #riskmitigation

Rail workers in Canada are nearing a strike, which could severely impact supply chain industries ranging from agriculture to automotive. The effects of this would extend far beyond the Canadian border and could disrupt supply chains throughout the US and Mexico. The supply chain industry has seen—and will continue to see—a fair share of strikes. Every time they occur, I emphasize a few things: diversifying transportation options, constantly developing contingency plans, and prioritizing collaboration with suppliers at all times rather than just when disruption occurs. #SupplyChain #SupplyChainDisruption #Diversification #Collaboration

🚨 Attention Travelers: Strike Action Alert 🚨 From March 6th to March 9th, air travel is expected to face significant disruptions due to strike action organized by the Verdi labor union. Lufthansa (LH) ground staff, represented by the union, are set to strike nationwide from 20:00 on March 6th until 07:10 on March 9th. Additionally, ground security staff at Hamburg (HAM) and Frankfurt (FRA) airports will conduct a 24-hour strike from 22:00 on March 6th to 22:00 on March 7th. Flights from these airports will be suspended during this period. The strikes stem from demands for increased pay and an inflation compensation bonus for employees. Travelers across the Lufthansa network should anticipate processing delays and flight disruptions, with potential knock-on effects on flights outside of Germany. Meanwhile, flights departing from HAM and FRA will be canceled, though security checkpoints for transiting flights will remain operational. Arriving flights at HAM and FRA are not directly impacted. Expect residual disruptions for several hours post-strike as airlines work to address backlogs. Demonstrations by striking workers near airports or Lufthansa offices are possible, leading to heightened security and localized transport disruptions in affected areas. Stay informed and plan accordingly to minimize travel inconveniences during this period. #TravelAlert #AirTravelDisruption #StrikeAction

If there was ever a case for a conversation about monopolies and trust-busting, it’s now. How did we reach a point where two companies and their respective unions can virtually bring the entire Canadian economy to a halt? For now, this is the reality. Until things change, Canadian and American companies will have to deal with the consequences. #CanadianEconomy #competition #logistics #supplychain
