Food insecurity is an urgent issue that requires all of us to work together. It affects nearly 6 million Canadians, including 1.4 million children, every year. My visit to South East Helping Hands with the Rotary Club of South Eastman and attending Harvest Manitoba's presentation at the meeting of United Nations Association in Canada (Winnipeg Branch) this week, provided a deeper appreciation for the vital role local food banks play in supporting families in need. A heartfelt thank you to the local businesses that donate generously and support these organizations in countless ways. Your contributions create hope and provide relief to so many. How can we help? • Volunteer or donate to food banks like South East Helping Hands and Harvest Manitoba. • Support businesses that give back to the community. • Advocate for stronger initiatives to address food insecurity. By working together, we can ensure no one goes hungry. #FoodInsecurity #CommunitySupport #RotaryInternational #HarvestManitoba #UnitedNationsAssociationCanada

September is National Hunger Action Month. And as the communities we serve continue to grow, along with food prices rising, more people are experiencing homelessness or relying on food banks and related services than ever before. Feed the Need in Durham, which distributes food to local food banks and hunger relief programs, now serves an average of 22,000 visits per month. We are committed making a positive difference in the communities we serve. That's why we support initiatives like Gleaners Foodbank's Growing Dome Project, which allows fresh produce to be grown year-round for those in need. Our funding helped make this project a reality, ensuring our community has access to healthy greens even during the coldest months. Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/gmbR7qcb For the rest of the month, we have called on our employees to bring in canned goods, which will be distributed across community food banks throughout our service area. Join us in making a difference—consider donating canned goods to support those in need. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e2GdhkmD #OurEnergyOurFuture #HungerActionMonth #EndHunger #CommunitySupport

Feeding a community helps it become (and stay) strong. According to Statistics Canada, 22.9% of families experienced food insecurity in 2022—that's almost one out of every four families! So, this World Hunger Day, what can we do to help? 🙌 donate to a food bank or food centre (like The Alex CFC or community kitchen: https://buff.ly/4bBuiBU) 🙌 volunteer to support local food resources, like a community pantry, fridge, or food program 🙌 vote for policies and platforms that lift our neighbours out of food insecurity

Over 42 million Americans, including 1 in 6 children, face food insecurity. Meanwhile, millions of pounds of food go to waste annually. Move For Hunger bridges this gap by turning wasted food into a resource for hungry families. This holiday season, we're proud to support Move for Hunger with Givsly, a charity dedicated to reducing food waste and fighting hunger across the country. They are a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing food waste and combating hunger in the United States and Canada. Their mission is to mobilize the relocation and moving industry to collect and donate non-perishable food items, which are then distributed to local food banks. When people move homes or offices, they often leave behind unopened, non-perishable food. Move for Hunger partners with moving companies, real estate agents, and storage facilities to collect this food and deliver it to those in need. They also organize food drives and awareness campaigns to amplify their efforts. 🚨 Hunger in Our Community is Growing 🚨 The Food Bank of Waterloo Region has been an essential pillar in their community, ensuring that their neighbours don’t go hungry. Through vital partnerships with local businesses and community members, they turn local generosity into life-saving meals. 💛 Thanks to a $5,000 donation from Forbes Motors GM the Food Bank can continue bridging the gap for those who need it most—filling inventory shortages, supporting dietary and cultural needs, keeping trucks on the road, and empowering 120+ local agencies and programs in the Community Food Assistance Network. But here’s the heartbreaking reality: hunger is hitting our communities harder than ever. 📈 By the Numbers: 🍽 Every $1 donated provides 2 meals for someone in need 👶 35% of those relying on assistance are children—about 20,500 kids 🏠 1 in 10 households in Waterloo Region struggle to put food on the table. Just two years ago, that number was 1 in 20 🚨 58,600 people are using emergency food programs—an increase of 45% in just a year. This surge is unprecedented. Families, children, seniors—our neighbors—are facing hunger like never before. Together, we can turn this around – while Food Banks are leading the charge, we all have a role to play. No one should go hungry in a community as vibrant and compassionate as Waterloo. Let’s come together, donate, and make a difference. 👉 Join us today in supporting the Food Bank’s mission. Because when we lift up our neighbours, we lift up our entire community. #ForbesMotors #FoodBankWR #WaterlooRegion #CommunityImpact #EndHunger #GiveBack #TogetherWeCan
