*A new face to face offering*
I, along with my colleague Angie Bamgbose (she/ her) are offering a new programme.
Why?
The times we are in move us, call us to certain types of work with certain purpose driven people.
Waves of collective trauma have been troubling our bodies, minds, hearts, and spirits. We can reel them off - increasing inequalities, racism, wars, genocide, climate anxiety, They call for a response.
One such response is this new face to face programme. How did this programme come about?
In the direct aftermath of the re-conflagration of the Israel/Palestine struggle after Hamas attacked Israel citizens in October 2023 I have been drawn to ask how well equipped are leaders in organisations for dealing with the ripples of collective trauma as they may show up in our communities and workplaces.
Especially those leaders at the frontline of working with marginalised people, with those whose trauma may be vicarious, caused by being witness to or connected to the direct suffering of others.
One of my most troubling experiences during this time was working with a group of internal coaches whose colleagues were working in Gaza, some of whom have subsequently been killed doing their aid work. The group reflective practice became a place to bring and process their trauma, to be resourced and supported.
This practice was the safest place they had to bring their emotions and the pain being carried in their bodies. Their leaders focused on operational and day to day running of the organisation had no space for this. Some of them were both coaches and leaders in the same organisation, carrying the burdens of both roles.
Hence this face to face programme and its offer. This is a six month retreat based programme of regenerative practices we are calling Critically Reflective, Trauma-Informed Action Learning (CRiTAL) for leaders in the DEI, Social Justice, Charity and Humanitarian fields and any other field that brings people into regular contact with trauma events and or the ripples from these events. It is a community based approach, not therapy yet therapeutic.
