Travelife for Tour Operators’ Post

The collaboration between UNWTO and WINTA has paved the way for community development, human rights principles, and the preservation of indigenous cultural expressions. In response to the challenges posed by COVID-19, both organizations sought to compile success stories and address the development issues faced by indigenous communities. In their book “Compendium of Good Practices in Indigenous Tourism – Regional Focus on the Americas” the focus is on the remarkable practices found in Latin America, a region undergoing significant socioeconomic and cultural transformations. The case studies presented in this compendium shed light on various dynamics, solutions, and ongoing challenges faced by key players in indigenous tourism. They encompass cultural interactions, intercultural dialogue, public policies, leadership promotion, safeguarding ancestral knowledge, community-centered experiences and more. With a diverse range of countries represented, including Canada, the United States, Mexico, Panama, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, we celebrate the unique realities of indigenous communities worldwide. By sharing these stories, UNWTO and WINTA aim to inspire sustainable practices, foster intercultural understanding, and create meaningful tourism experiences that respect indigenous cultures.
