Rail strikes may not have affected me getting back from London yesterday, but so many people will just scrap their plans on strike affected days, with a significant impact on hospitality sales as a result. 🚆 Hospitality Data Insights (HDI) analysis shows that on average, a day of tube and rail strikes over the last 18 months has led to a 32% reduction in hospitality spend within Zone 1. Pubs & Bars have been hardest hit, with Zone 1 sales down by 38% on average. 📉🍻 Timing matters too - strikes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, as we’ve seen this week, have an even greater impact. On average, Pubs & Bars sales have been down by 46-47% on each of these key days where people are now most likely to be in London for work. 📅💼 I may have been able to find a workaround for my travel plans yesterday, but a 4 hour door to door trip is not something I’d want to be doing on a regular basis.
