Introducing our third group of #TCGInternWeek2024 spotlights! 𝐉𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐤 Jason is studying Civil Engineering at the University of Southern Indiana, and is currently working on the Sam Houston Tollway Ship Channel Bridge. He has been monitoring the main pylon construction this summer, which includes installing concrete temperature sensors, measuring rebar and forms, modelling components for work plans, and completing safety and waste walks. 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧 Alexandria is a Civil Engineering student at Iowa State University, and has been interning on the Mount Vernon Viaduct Replacement project this summer. She has been assisting with Abutment 1 by preparing quality control reports during rebar installation, monitoring Peri formwork installation, overseeing the stripping process for formwork, and preparing for the construction of the backwall and pedestals. 𝐉𝐞𝐛 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐨𝐧 Jeb is pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Alabama, and has been located at the Evansville office this summer. He has been working on a 3D model of a bridge trestle layout for a future bid that illustrates the assembly, phases, and spacing of the project. 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 Hunter is a Civil Engineering student at Murray State, and is currently working on the Belle Chasse Bridge and Tunnel Replacement project. He has been helping with the settlement remediation for the approach slabs, which includes constant monitoring of settlement on both north and south approaches, calculating the total settlement on each, and crafting a work plan for remediation. #TraylorDriven Traylor Construction Group

One of the most exciting parts of my civil engineering studies has been learning how to design beams, columns, and trusses. Understanding the relationship between loads, support, and stability is crucial to creating safe and efficient structures. I can't wait to apply these concepts to real-life projects soon! #CivilEngineeringStudent #StructuralDesign #EngineeringKnowledge"

Fundamentals of Bridge Engineering - B-002 What is a Bridge? A bridge is a structure built to span physical obstacles such as a river, valley, road, or rail, providing a pathway for transportation. Classification of bridges: 1) Based on Material - Concrete Bridge - Timber Bridge - Steel Bridge - Stone Bridge - Composite Bridge 2) Based on Structural Forms - Beam/Girder Bridge - Arch Bridge - Truss Bridge - Cantilever Bridge - Suspension Bridge - Cable Stayed Bridge 3) Based on Construction Techniques - Cast in situ Bridge - Pre-cast Bridge 4) Based on Prestressing - Pre-tensioned Bridge - Post - Tensioned Bridge The choice of bridge type impacts structural integrity, cost, aesthetics, and environmental impact. Factors such as the span length, load requirements, geographical and site conditions, and material availability influence the decision. For instance, suspension bridges are ideal for long spans but are costly, while beam bridges are economical for shorter spans. Additionally, the choice affects construction time, maintenance needs, and potential environmental disruption. These foundational concepts of bridge engineering are invaluable for entry-level civil engineering students. Stay tuned for further posts. #BridgeEngineering #CivilEngineering #StructuralIntegrity #InfrastructureDesign #EngineeringStudents #ConstructionManagement #SustainableEngineering #SpanLength #LoadRequirements #MaterialSelection #BridgeDesign #EngineeringEducation #FutureEngineers #CivilEngineeringCommunity

To all the respected professors of Civil Engineering; please stop teaching things in a confusing way. Do not draw moment diagram at the compression side. Moment diagram if drawn at tension side, gives clear idea where actually the reinforcement bar goes and what it resists. Professor Bondy is exaplaining that so well to understand the concept practically. Update and upgrade the teaching methodologies for the sake of your fellow students. Bridges in Texas: A Technical and Inspiring Perspective Exploring Texas has been an exciting experience, especially as a civil engineer. One thing that immediately caught my attention here is the abundance of bridges – sometimes, one built over another! This solution not only optimizes space but also highlights the need for efficiency in areas with heavy traffic. From a technical standpoint, it's fascinating to see how concrete and steel dominate these structures. Concrete provides excellent compressive strength, while steel adds flexibility and tensile strength, making this combination ideal for supporting heavy loads and long spans. Another remarkable aspect is the blend of functionality and aesthetics. These bridges not only solve mobility challenges but also enhance the urban and rural landscapes. Seeing these impressive projects up close has deepened my appreciation for civil engineering and the creative solutions it brings to life. Do you also find inspiration in how engineering shapes our daily lives? #CivilEngineering #Texas #Structures #ConcreteAndSteel #Inspiration
