ASD Market Week, and the closeout industry in general is like a gigantic family reunion. There are a ton of versions of that wacky aunt that you avoid at all costs, but inevitably get caught talking about the latest political issues with (I cant be the only one who this happens to?). There is the quality time you get with people you wish you saw more often because when you do it feels like you're connecting, cared for, and moving forward. And of course, there is that healthy balance of competition and collaboration. We are fortunate to have been in this wacky industry for an eternity, and have enjoyed the benefits of many long and fruitful relationships. We have people we work with extensively who we also compete with. We are all fighting over pennies all day long. literally. Pennies. But, in the end of the day, there's a lot of shared success that is created by focusing on making deals where everyone has a margin, and most importantly consumers save money. Why linear statistics can fall short. Shown is a picture of my force-time curve during a CMJ. The movement isn’t linear, so why as practitioners do we apply linear statistics to make return to play decisions? Instead, we can supplement linear statistics with other methods like trigonometry to make better decisions. For example, after injury we know force lags behind strength, so we can find ratios within specific time frames to look at athlete reaction.
