🍺Warrendale Wagyu has sidestepped into booze with the launch of what it claims is the UK’s first bottled fat-washed gin. Made from triple-filtered gin “washed with molten wagyu fat for 48 hours”, the spirit offered “comforting umami aromas” alongside “bright bursts of ruby grapefruit, lemon grass and warming pink peppercorn”.
💳Aldi UK has added a contactless card payment option to its checkout-free ‘Shop&Go’ store. It means shoppers no longer need to download Aldi’s Shop&Go app to access the Greenwich store, which opened in January 2022. The store uses cameras and AI to detect what customers pick up, meaning they can ‘just walk out’ with their shopping, with no need to check out or scan items.
👃Holland & Barrett has launched a new specialist ingredients range tailored to customers who have seen their taste or smell affected by illness or treatment. The “first of its kind” range of pastes, seasonings and sauces – called Life Kitchen – has been created in collaboration with a not-for-profit cookery school of the same name, which was co-founded by the chef and author Ryan Riley.
☕Clipper Tea is to launch a new integrated marketing campaign promoting the ethical credentials of its teas. The Ecotone UK-owned brand will press live on its largest campaign to date this week. The ‘There’s Tea, Then There’s Good Tea’ campaign would comprise an investment of more than £1m across TV, video on demand, out of home and social, according to Clipper.
📈Fortnum & Mason is to double the capacity of its warehouse network, and expand its fresh food offer after increased demand helped the 317-year-old grocer post strong annual results. Despite an initially slow start, Christmas sales – which Fortnum’s publishes alongside its annual results – were also strong. They grew 17% in the five weeks to 24 December, with the retailer seeing “record” numbers in stores and online.
