In the realm of accelerating startups within the research-intensive sector, 🇸🇬 Singapore is leveraging its extensive network to full advantage. This network encompasses the nation’s largest scientific and applied research organizations, along with intellectual property management entities. Crucially, the patenting and other IP management processes form an inseparable pipeline vital for enabling deep tech businesses.
In 🇪🇪 Estonia, there’s a pressing need to ramp up efforts, considering that patenting activities have been among Europe’s lowest per capita, even falling below Belarus. Intellectual property management remains an overlooked aspect in our accelerator programs, with thin expertise or only superficial understanding within our government sector.
🇪🇪 Estonian state agencies such as Enterprise Estonia and Estonian Research Council could emulate Singapore’s processes and establish partnerships with leading intellectual property management organizations in Estonia and abroad.

🌱 NIRAS invests in the residing startup company KlimaID 🌱
For the very first time in the Hub's lifetime, NIRAS has invested in one of the startup residents. From 1st of May, NIRAS has invested in the company KlimaID which is founded by serial entrepreneur Søren Malmskov Fischer and Torben Kirk Wolf, former Head of Department in NIRAS’ Data Science department.
“The investment from NIRAS is an ideal win-win situation with a positive spillover effect for both parties. We operate in the Danish utility industry, where NIRAS already has a high market penetration and strong customer relations. Besides our shared customer base, the co-ownership enables us to generate deeper integration of our solutions, accelerate market penetration for KlimaID and increase consultancy projects for NIRAS” states Søren Malmskov Fischer.
Through data analyses and -visualization KlimaID supports the utility companies' optimization of their capital investments, and at the same time, their customers can get an overview of their consumption via an app.
Becoming a startup investor is a new step for NIRAS, exploiting the synergies between the green tech startups allocated next to their headquarter. Spinning out concepts, new products, and allowing employees to pursue new dreams to flourish and be technically creative are all part of the vision of building the Green Tech Hub!
