Is it possible to put a value on character and integrity? Is character and integrity more important than any hard indicator of performance, like profit and ROI? And if so, why have we not found a way to quantify it? I am reminded of this speech by Jack Ma about how he fired 2 of his employees that are bringing in 60% of the company sales because they gave bribes, in a time when Alibaba is not breaking even. He would rather close the company than to lose integrity. Would the shareholders and investors of Alibaba make the same decision? When push comes to shove, how many of us would have the tenacity to stick to our integrity? How do we build our organizational, legal and governmental systems to reflect the values we say are important, instead of profit? Finally, what can we put in place to reduce a bias that equates appearance, polish and possibly arrogance, to competence and integrity? What are some of the systems you have seen work? https://lnkd.in/gQcRpdwN
