Resilience is an increasingly important quality for energy systems. But how much does it cost and when is the right time to invest? We presented our answer to these questions in ECOS2024 - 37th International Conference on Efficiency, Cost, Optimization, Simulation & Environment. I am thrilled to share that ORIS Materials Intelligence will be participating this week in the 6th International Symposium on Pavement, Roadway, and Bridge Life Cycle Assessment, taking place from June 6-8, 2024, in Arlington! We will be presenting two key topics: 1️⃣ Digitized Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for Infrastructure: We'll dive into the major challenges of data management in infrastructure LCA and how digital solutions can streamline workflows and support informed decision-making, with insights from a UK pavement construction project. 2️⃣ Climate Resilient Modelling of Infrastructure: Showcasing the ORIS Climate Resilience Methodology, which uses AI and advanced algorithms to develop robust transport infrastructure capable of withstanding climate change. This includes a comprehensive tool that couples climate projections with infrastructure risks, illustrated by a case study assessing 8,000 km of roads in a Central Asian country. #IGAC2024 We have had two amazing days at the short course so far and today marks the final day. We started with a panel about skills and career development to highlight the role of the ECR in atmospheric research (and topics related) followed by a workshop on how the outcomes from their research/projects can add more value to the scientific community. Presented at the 14th UK conference on Wind Engineeriny organised by Wind Engineering Society held at University of Southampton. Got a chance to interact with experimentalists, computational scientists and analytical modellers to understand and learn the state of the art in modelling air flows in urban settings. It was also encouraging to see the role of data-driven methods percolating not just into academia, but also into industry! Our study focused on improving 3D mean velocity estimation (in the context of urban flows) using limited observational data by employing the variational method. We are also currently working on passive scalar dispersion modelling using variational method which would have a tremendous impact on the way air quality and pollutant dispersion will be studied in the future. 🚨 New Research Publication Alert! 🚨 The latest publication, led by BERTHA researchers Louise Bøge Frederickson and Ole Hertel, aimed to determine the ability of low-cost sensors to measure the gradient in pollution between street and urban backgrounds in a specific street configuration. Highlights: ➡ Investigation of pollution concentrations from street to urban background using low-cost sensors. ➡ A moderate correlation was found between traffic-related air pollution, noise, and traffic counts, influenced by wind speed and direction. ➡ No vertical gradient was detected with low-cost sensors, despite low sensor intervariability. ➡ Large-eddy simulation model runs using the PALM model system generally supported the measured observations. ➡ Vertical concentration profile is very sensitive to stratification 🔗 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dsYb_xEd
